Chances of getting into Notre Dame / UT Austin / Emory / Georgetown / Vanderbilt / American Univ?

I am taking a rigorous coursework with 14 AP classes under my belt by the end of senior year. Also, I know that I’ll have pretty decent teacher recs.

AP (place score in parenthesis): So far, 4 on Psychology and World History

Major Awards: Top 40 in the nation in congressional debate last year, ranked 25th in the nation currently and ranked 30th in the nation in extemporaneous speaking and 8th in the nation in informative speaking. National Merit Commended Score and National Merit Semifinalist.

Gender: Male
Income Bracket: Parents’ combined earning is $150,000

Also: if there are any other good schools y’all think I may have a good shot getting into, please let me know!

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are good. You should consider applying to Ivies that interest you. Write great essays and you could get accepted to any of these schools

Well if it’s affordable, U of Texas is a safety, and you’ve already won. Just make sure you maintain your class rank, because if you slip it probably becomes a high match or match, even in-state.

The rest:

Georgetown - Reach
Notre Dame - Reach
Vanderbilt - Reach
Emory - Low reach
American - Match/low match (but show them love)

In terms of getting into elite schools, I think you should look at top LACs, especially those in the Midwest and South. Check out these:

Carleton
Washington & Lee
Davidson
Grinnell
Oberlin
Macalester
U of Richmond
Kenyon

And elsewhere:
Williams
Amherst
Swarthmore
Pomona
Middlebury
Bowdoin
Haverford
Wesleyan
Vassar
Hamilton
Claremont McKenna
Colby
Bates

It’s very hard (and seemingly random) for ORMs to get into elite universities these days. Do apply, but just know that it’s almost a negative hook. That is not the case at most LACs, especially those in the Midwest and South.

Thank you so much. I had a couple other questions:

  1. Would my chances of getting into ND/Georgetown/Vandy significantly if my SAT score moved up to 1500-1540 ?
  2. Do you think I have a legitimate chance at any of the Ivies? Thank you again!
