chances of getting into nyu tisch

i want to go to film school
my gpa is 3.00
btw this is my gpa with my schools harsh grading system where 93-100 is an a 85-92 is a b and so on, so when the calculate it its probably a little higher

sat high 500

i know these arent the best grades but im pretty well rounded and have experience in film and the arts
- ive acted in 5 short films so far, one of them is in a film festival
-im really into photography
-ive made a few short films to and im directing a music video in april
-i play piano and take acting class and i took art last year in school
- i started the film club in my school and run it and i run the photo club

does my experience make up for my average grades because i heard that nyu not only looks at the grades but also how well rounded you are.

Your grades (and especially your SAT) are certainly on the low side for NYU, and Tisch seems to be very competitive in every respect. The kids who are applying for film may have a lot of the same credentials or even more. I’d definitely consider it a reach, but if you’re required to submit a portfolio or something it will definitely help to show them your most outstanding work. My school system has the same grading scale, and most who are applying/have applied to NYU and gotten in have unweighted GPAs at least .4 higher and are in specialty/magnet programs or IB. However, don’t consider it a throwaway application. They could think your film work is excellent enough to accept you anyway. Don’t expect to get any scholarship money out of them, though. Maybe you should take the SAT again, or the ACT if it better suits your strengths.

What is your weighted GPA, if you don’t mind me asking?

thanks! well i havent taken the official sat yet but i have been doing sections with my tutor and math and reading are in the high 500’s and writing was like 620
