I am in 3 AP’s and 2 math classes currently
Grades have an upward trend
Honor roll - throughout high school
Extra curricular activities are:
Varsity cross country, varsity track: all of high school
Copy editor of my schools editor
Mentor for freshmen and sophomores
Anti bullying club, creative director
Organized a clothing drive for a church
I’ve volunteered at a hospital for the last 2 years for 8 hours a week
I started a program assembling care packages at a hospital for victims in the pediatric burn unit
I work at a physical therapists office during the week as an aide
I also work at a podiatrists office on weekends filing paper
Also NYU sent me an email a few days ago asking me to fill out a form for a new program to study in Washington D.C., I did this and wrote another supplement for it.
I asked my friends who also applied to NYU if they received the email and they did not.
There is a whole area for these guessing games, called What are My Chances board. This one is for people searching for colleges to apply to. But I think your scores are lower than average. gpa a bit too. That’s all anyone can tell you. If you are applying anyway, just put your application in, then move on and pick more schools, pick safeties etc.
Before you spend too much time worrying about NYU, have your parents run the NPC? Do you know if they’ll pay for NYU? It is very expensive and gives lousy aid, especially for modest stats.

Over a year ago, you posted that these are your stats. Were these higher stats scores that you were hoping to get???
Yes, I took an sat/act combine prep course and after taking both of the practice tests, that was my projected score, and they said that was a good projection of what I would get…
I already applied, i was just wondering, especially because they asked me about NYU Washington D.C., and after asking around it seems that no one I know who applied received that email… before this I had lost hope in getting in anyways.
side note: NYU freshmen year in DC is a new program where you have your freshmen year in DC and the last 3 in NYC
It means that yes you’ve increased your odds, but ONLY if you can pay full freight (ie., if you don’t need financial aid, loans, or scholarships). This is a new program and they’re trying to make it grow, but it’s primarily for their poli sci/journalism studens a well as from other campuses (duplicating American’s Semester in DC program, I think… and its lucrative fees) - originally it wasn’t meant for freshmen (for instance, there are no RAs and no cafeterias, you’ll have to cook for yourself and find your own entertainment). But since they’re trying to make it grow, they offer it as an appealing “overflow” option for students whose credentials are weaker than NYU wishes they were, but who may succeed and whose parents can pay. They already have a similar program in NYC, but not as appealing as that one IMHO, plus it frees up space on the NYU campus (if some of the students that would otherwise be LS or GLS can be directed to DC), and is faster than the LS program - students have one year to prove they can hack it.
Pretty low SAT and GPA. Are you good enough to run for them? If so and they know you are coming (advocating for you), then I say you can get in. Otherwise, I think you will be denied.
no, i will unfortunately not be playing sports, and yes I know my chances are slim to none. The only reason my interest was reignited was the email, and I wrote another supplement for the DC opportunity, but I was just wondering.
My hunch is that your writing that essay may make the difference; you’re not qualified for direct NYU entry but they’re saying they’re willing to consider you for a 1+3 program in DC. So, through that roundabout way, you’d be getting into NYU anyway, and one you graduate no one would know (or care about) your SAT score or high school record, only what you achieved while at NYU.
However, if you were admitted, ask
1° will freshmen be housed together and will they have a RA?
(everyone else will be juniors - you’ll probably be a small group of 25-30 freshmen)
2° after the year in DC, are the students in good standing moving to the NYU campus guaranteed housing?
(if not, that’d be a nightmare: how do you find your place in a new university if you’re not in campus housing?)
