So, recently I’ve been stressing out about getting into NYU (College of Arts and Sciences). I intend to major in history or political science. Here are my stats:
GPA UW: 3.5
GPA W: 4.4
ACT: 29
SAT: Still waiting for scores to come back
Class Rank: 79 out of a class of 520
APs: By the end of senior year I’d have taken 6 AP courses. I got a 4 on all off my AP exams and haven’t taken mine this year.
ECs:
-Key Club (President 1 year, VP 1 year, member 2 years)
-National Honor Society
-National French Honor Society)
-Interact (community service club; 2 years)
-Future Business leaders of America
-National Science Honor Society (2 years)
National Social Studies Honor Society (2 years)
Outside Activities:
-Eagle Scout
-Currently work at Starbucks
I’ve been really stressed out about getting into CAS because it’s my dream school and I don’t want to miss my shot.
Your chances are about 10%. If I were you, I wouldn’t even consider a school that charges $250,000 for a bachelors degree. That’s more than medical school. Take some time to shop around and find an affordable school that works for you. When kids get hung up on a “dream school,” even if they get in, inevitably they find out that it’s a poor fit, because they didn’t take the time to compare other schools.
Depending on your SAT, you’d want to rewrite ACT. Being realistic: 29 is below the 25th percentile for NYU (30-34 enrolled for class of 2022), and 3.5 GPA is below the “typical” 3.7, though your weighted gpa does indicate decent rigor. So apply, but be realistic that it will be tough to get in. Don’t have a “dream school”, especially one where your stats are below par. By all means have a couple of reach schools, but make sure you have a few match and safety schools on your list.
