I’ve taken a few courses at community college to explore what I want to do (which is Computer Science), although not enough credits to apply as a transfer student, so I would have to apply as a new undergraduate. During high school I struggled with a variety of personal issues and severe depression, but since then I’ve gone to counseling and have gotten past it. Unfortunately it left me with a rather lackluster high school GPA of around 2.83 (not sure if that is weighted or unweighted, I took a couple of AP classes). I graduated high school back in 2014, and besides taking some community college classes, it’s mostly been a gap year of work, volunteering, and traveling.
GPA: 2.83 (high school)
SAT (old scoring system): 610 reading, 540 math, 510 writing (1660 total)
AP scores: 4 on AP US History, 5 on AP Government
The two schools I am looking at are Oregon State University and University of Oregon. According to OSU’s website, it doesn’t necessarily specify that a 3.0 GPA is a requirement, but certainly preferred. University of Oregon, however, has a special admissions section for special circumstances if your GPA was below a 3.0 for whatever reason. It seems to me that U of O is a bit more lenient on admissions in that case, especially since they have applicants write full fledged college essays rather than the segmented insight resume that OSU’s application process has one do.
What do you think my chances are of getting accepted into OSU and or U of O?
If you have any recommendations or suggestions regarding applying to either university, let me know.
