Chances of Getting into Penn State, UMiami, Purdue

I’m applying for the Fall 2019 session and was wondering what are my chances of getting into the business school.

I have a 1270 SAT score, 630 of it being math and 640 being English.
By the end of my 4 years of high school, I should have at least 15 total Honors + AP classes on my transcript.

Now, the only problem I could think of getting into the school is I took college prep algebra 1, geometry, and algebra 2. I will be taking Honors Pre-Calc this year though, and I’m going to try and see if I can take an online course for Statistics because they couldn’t fit AP Stats into my schedule.

I’m not sure if this helps the application, but I’m in National Honors Society, National Technical Honors Society, Student Council, and I do athletics in and out of school.

90% applicants to Smeal are denied ; they then need to apply DUS and complete Entrance to Major courses (with all Smeal students). Apply DUS right away and save yourself some time.

Two thirds of the decision is based on GPA and one third is based on SAT/ACT scores. Your SAT score is on the lower end for PSU at UP (around 25th percentile) so it’s likely going to hold you back for Smeal, which is by far one of the more competitive colleges to gain acceptance. You didn’t mention your GPA, but given scores only I’d recommend applying DUS with a back up option to start in summer…assuming your parents can afford the extra semester. You can do all prereqs from DUS.

My GPA weighted is 4.17 and unweighted is a 3.96, but it does sound like doing DUS right away sounds like a good option still.

My two cents…you should be fine with that high of a GPA. But since there’s little difference between being accepted to Smeal as a premajor and going the DUS route, you might as well take the easier path and do prereqs via the DUS. The only difference to my knowledge is that you won’t have a Smeal adviser. Just make sure you educate yourself on the recommended academic plan for the major you think you want.

Thanks for the info. Also by any chance do you know if there’s an undergraduate Environmental Engineering major? That’s another thing I could see myself doing, but I could only find that it’s for Graduate studies, but I’m not sure if I’m looking in the wrong place or something.

It’s located in College of Agriculture - relatively easy to get into, lots of hands on experience and internships.

Oh okay, I’m guessing it’s Environmental Systems Engineering. Thank you again.
