Hi everyone,

I am a part of the class of 2012 and college apps are coming and Purdue is my number one choice for engineering, since it is a very high ranked school in engineering, and is relatively easier to get into than other colleges.

My GPA is low, 3.14, but my SAT is 2060/1410 depending on how you want to look at it. My ECs are good, I have taken up volunteering work as well as having some work experience and being in quite a few school clubs as well. I have taken the SAT Subject tests as well (Even though not required) and have scored a 730 in math and 680 in Physics.

My schoolwork has been rigorous. I have taken AP Human Geo, AP Macro and Micro economics/ AP Physics B/ AP Calc AP/AP Physics C (currently)/ APCS (currently) and AP Stats (Currently). I have scored 4s on all the previous AP tests I have taken (5), and have got an AP scholar with distinction.

I was wondering around what are my chances of getting into Purdue? Obviously my GPA is the weak point, but my SAT scores are decent and my classwork has been rigorous (I have got mostly Bs, a couple of C+s in the AP courses), so I think I might have a chance, but I would like some opinions from others as well.

Thanks!

I think you can probably get in, you took hard classes and your sat scores are better than they need to be

Considering Purdue’s Acceptance rate is 72% & Engineering I think is slightly lower…like 70%?
You’re fine
I’m also applying Engineering @ Purdue so I’ve done my research and you should be fine. The only possible reason you might get rejected would be your GPA but since you’ve taken challenging courses I think you’ll be fine

Chance me?

I am not worried about myself getting into Purdue but I am worried about some friends that I am hoping will be going to Purdue too. They are both in-state students like myself.

Friend 1: He got a 2.9 in high school with a 1280 SAT (all 3 sections combined). In his application, he talked about how he did not plan on going to college since his parents did not and that is why his grades and scores aren’t that superb. He currently attends a small Christian school, which is at least a a step up from a community college, and is mainting a 3.5 so far in the first quarter. One of his professors also wrote him a letter of recommendation and his EC’s are decent from high school. He is applying to the school of liberal arts. Chance him?

Friend 2: So far, she has maintained a 3.2 in high school with a 1500 SAT score. Indiana University Bloomington told her they would like her 7th semester grades to decide her admission. However, she retook the SATs and got her score back today as a 1570. She is applying to the fashion program at Purdue. She had outstanding EC’s. Chance her?
