Chances of Getting Into Requested Dorms

Hey Guys,

I wanted to know what the chances are of getting into the dorms I requested. I put Santa Catalina (FT) as my first choice. Is there a better chance of getting in there because it houses 1/3 of the freshman class?

Also, if you get in a dorm that you can't stand, is there a way to change after a certain period of time (e.x. a quarter)?

If you put FT as your top choice you’re pretty much guaranteed to get that. I figured that where ever you put FT in your dorm rankings, after that there’s a really small chance for you to get the dorms you selected below that because FT has so much space. Unless you’re like one of the last 100 people selected in the lottery, in which case you’re just really unlucky haha

Usually about half of the starting class is in FT or Santa Catalina now…
So if you put it you will very likely get it.

The food sucks, relative to the not so spectacular food in all the other dining commons as well.

Santa Catalina first choice?
99% chance you’ll get it. (+/- 1%)

The figure they gave out at spring insight was that 50% of people are given their first or second choice. But if assume that it’s be higher if your first or second choice was ft

I just read the housing contract. They assign dorms randomly. When your name comes up, they go to your first choice. If it is available, then that is what you get. If there are no spots left, then they go to your second choice and so on. So, I think what dorm you get is based soley on when your name comes up in the random selection process.
