Volunteer
Starting the summer before my freshman year I volunteered at a Somali youth service center. I was a teen leader, teaching kids the basics of reading and writing Arabic. Holding lectures arranging activities and other fun stuff. Did this for two years. I only stopped because it shut down due to lack of funding :(.
Starting my sophomore year till now I tutor kids and adults in English. They are Somali refugees/immigrants. With the adults mainly helping with conversational English and the kids it’s supplemental tutoring to help understand classwork. Since I live in Texas most esl programmes focus on Spanish there are no real options for students who can’t speak English or Spanish.

Essays: (1-10)
Common app- 9.5
This is the best essay I’ve ever written, had multiple people read it, including my English teacher who loved it. It was about how my love for reading bleeds it’s way into my academic life and the ideas I get from reading feeds my curiosity.

Roommate: 7
It was definitely the most me essay. Talked about how my reading obsession would affect them. My competitive nature and how it caused me to read 210 books in one year.

Experience: 9

Talked about my curious nature, obsession with googling anything new along with subtle Harry potter reference.

Meaningful- 7

Literature and language.

Rec:
Apush teacher- she loved me, bonded over mutual love for Hamilton. Pretty sure it was great

English Lang teacher- pretty sure it was good. Only had her for a year but she was best friends with my freshman English teacher and she loved me, so all good things I hope.
Counselor- at a school of 3000 with 7 counselors, it’s honestly probably kind of generic. After she had written she said I was one of the most accomplished kids she knew…maybe that’ll help.

Hooks-
First generation
Urm- african american

I know my test scores aren’t the best but I did my best (took both tests 3 times each). I think I did a good job with making sure my entire ap is cohesive (love for literature and history going along with my English major goal)
Other schools-
UT Austin, Columbia, Harvard, Bowdoin, Swarthmore, U Oregon (safety) , UW Seattle, UTSA(safety), u Chicago, Boston College, UPENN, UVA and a few others.

And now I turn to you. My test scores aren’t the best but what do y’all think?

Since the admission rate is around 5% don’t get your hopes up.

The class rank and test scores are not Stanford level. You should have a decent shot at Bowdoin, Texas, and Boston College.I am not sure about the others.
