Chances of getting into Syracuse?

Hi, I applied early decision II to Syracuse and wanted to know what you guys think my chances of getting in are.

I applied to the College of Arts and Sciences, which I heard is not that difficult to get into.

GPA- 82.56 Weighted
SAT- 1430 superscored, Test 1- 430 reading, 480 math, 470 writing
Test 2- 460 Reading, 470 math, 490 writing (I know my scores are terrible)
Strong extracurriculars, loads of community service, two sports, job experience, internship at a dentist office
Strong essay
Strong teacher recs
Note: I am hispanic, which I heard can make it easier for you to get in

Please give me your thoughts! Thank you

@iredmac this is a close call I will lean yes señor

@Hardliner thank you! Definitely makes me feel more relaxed haha

Anyone care to reply?

Good extracurriculars. Only problem I can see is the SAT score. Lastly- being hispanic does not make it easier for one to get accepted. Statistically, Hispanic and African American students are from urban areas where the schools might not be as good as more suburban schools, therefore making it more of challenge for the urban students to do as well as the suburban students. Universities take that curve into account when reviewing applicants.

I sent in my application on January 1st (it was a last minute addition to my college list) and I have not gotten an email confirmation from them that they have received my application, is that normal? Have other people gotten email confirmations that their application was received?

@iredmac Hey there, I am Hispanic as well and I did Early Decision II for Syracuse. It was a tough decision to choose Syracuse as my first choice, but I think I made the right choice. I considered seven other private universities (Duke, Miami, Northwestern, Rice, Tulane, Wake Forest, & Vanderbilt) as well.

Also, I have to say, I’m glad that I ran into another Hispanic on CC who applied to Syracuse ED. I mean really, it’s 11% Hispanic at SU and what are the odds? Lol, if you want to know more of each other — message me. Honestly, this is so comforting! I’m not trying to be discriminative, but I thought it would be stressful AT FIRST at SU since it’s mostly Whites.

Anyway, I think your chances are similar to mine (on Parchment, it said 57%) because I’m in a position where my SAT /GPA isn’t that strong but everything else is very amazing. However, I think you will get in. Syracuse did a convention of “inclusion to increase diversity” or something like that, and SU basically wants to create a very diverse college over the next few years/decades. It’s in New York too, and coming from California I had to look for a location that was accepting of others and is full of liberals (yeah yeah some conservatives but at least it’s not like Duke and Vanderbilt with their respective location).

I seriously hope I get in.

@elefish92 Hey, sorry for the late response. I am still waiting on my decision from Syracuse and am really nervous. However, thank you for the inspiration saying that you think I will get in. I hope the same goes for you. And sure, I’ll message you. I know that the majority of Syracuse is whites, and it is nice to find another Hispanic applying ED here (just letting you know, I’m not fully hispanic, my dad is white haha.)

@swellssoccer I actually applied 15 minutes after the deadline, on January 2nd. I thought they wouldn’t accept it, but I got emails from both the common app and Syracuse saying my application is under review. i’m not sure why you wouldn’t get one if you applied earlier than me, but I’m sure it will come.

Bump

Anyone else?

@iredmac I applied ED II back on the 1st of January. I’m hoping to get into the College of Arts and Sciences as well. I applied for Pre-Med. I’m also from Syracuse lol so maybe that helps my chances?
I’m also not Hispanic, I’m Black.
Sat: 1610 superscore
I had strong ED’s, Rec’s and a good essay.

Good Luck to everyone who applied!

When are we even supposed to hear back?

?

My daughter applied EDII as well. We attended an info session on Friday and was told EDII should hear back in “early Feb” and regular decision would hear back in “early March.” Not sure if that helps much.

Oh okay, thanks for the info
