Chances of getting into the Burnett Honors College?

Hello,

My name is Prince, hahaha, and no I am not the singer. But I am new to College Confidential and I feel that it would relieve my nerves if I went on a forum where other people experience the same thing as myself. My question is over the admission into the Burnett Honors College at the University of Central Florida. Some background information, my mother is German and my father is African American and they met each other in Germany and had me in Germany, so I am native born German, but I have Dual Citizenship and a current resident in the state of Florida. Fast forwarding a bit, I am now a Senior in high school and neither of my parents have gone to college and so the whole process and admission is brand new to me. I have, fortunately, already been admitted to the University of Central Florida (Wooohooo!) for their Summer Term and now to take an even bigger leap, I am going to apply for their Honors college. I feel this would be a great opportunity and I just want to be given the chance to prove how much I want it and how it could benefit my future academic success.

As you can see I do quite a few things outside of school and take a relatively high course load but I just do not feel confident that I will get it. If someone has any ideas on my chances, I would love to hear them. I plan to take the SAT once again and to take the ACT soon to hopefully have improved scores. I know I seem very average as a student but this year is my year of redemption, I improved my SAT composite score by 70 points and I plan to do it again to qualify for the highest medallion for the Bright Futures Scholarship. I have gotten straight A's so far this semester and I plan to get it again for the rest of the year and hopefully do well on my AP exams. The ones I have taken so far I have passed with 3's and I know that seems lame but I plan to improve greatly this year. I just hope it is enough. If anyone has any comments about the information that I have now, that would be great to please reply. I am keeping faith though for my score. I come from a place where I was never offered much but I continue to try my hardest, and if it is something I want, I strive to get it, my scores and grades would have been better if I known how the college system worked sooner but I didn't and so I am hoping that I can make it all work out this time. Please even if you think I won't make it in, please have a bit of prayer for it and some faith. Some reassuring words would be nice, but be honest as well, I can accept not getting in as I am a realistic person. I just want some opinions and take it from there seeing as the college only really gave me a midrange for things.

I think you have a good shot, especially since you applied early, have such a high gpa, and are a minority (biracial counts, right?). Your test score might hurt (average is 1361 cr+m) but I’m sure you’ve retaken the sat. Even if you didn’t, I’d still say your chances were high.

Also: first generation.

Well guys, just to let you know, I haven’t heard back from the Honors College, I went to the campus and talked to their head of admission saying they haven’t quite made a decision yet, HOWEVER, as of yesterday I got my SAT scores and have increased 100 points. I now currently have a 720 Mathematics and a 590 Critical reading with a composite of a 1310 which is a dramatic increase. I wish I could take it one more time and get just that little bit more that I want.

Stats up-to-date:
Unweighted GPA: 3.739
Weighted GPA: 4.457
Unweighted Rank: 19/203
Weighted Rank: 14/203

Well everyone another update, it seems that my orientation date has been changed for Burnett Honors dates, and I am trying to figure out why it is. Not crossing it out, but very suspicious as I was not informed. Lets hope for the best everyone!!!

THANK YOU EVERYONE. I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED TO THE BURNETT HONORS COLLEGE AT UCF. I have put in a lot of work but it finally paid off. Take it from me, never give up.

Kingpower01, Congratulations on your acceptance to UCF and the Honors program! Your drive and determination will serve you well. Go Knights!
