So I am # 68 on the waiting list for psych 106. The class has a maximum capacity of 225 people. The wait-list has 175 people in it. Do I have a chance of making it into the class? I am an intended psych major, so it is pretty crucial that I get in.

it is rather unlikely

second+ opinions, please??

The class has categories for registration:

Seats have been reserved for:

Instructor Approval; a Class Entry Code is required to enroll in these seats. (Open)
Students with a major of Psychology and Students with a class level of Senior or Junior or Sophomore (Full)
Students with a registration status of new and Students with a class level of Junior (Open)
Students with a class level of Senior (Full)
Open seating (Open)

The class itself has openings - 207 of the 225 slots are filled.

It is full (see above) for any senior and any psych major who is a soph, jr or sr.
If you are an entering xfer student, junior, and have not yet declared the major, it is open.

If you are none of the above, you can register for it right now regardless of the waitlist.

If you can convince the professor to let you in, it has openings for that as well.

As you can see, this all depends upon your class standing, whether you are an entering xfer student, and upon your status as undeclared or official psych major.

If you tried to register for a full discussion session, even though the lecture was open, you would have been waitlisted even if you were eligible (non psych major and not a senior) otherwise. However, according to the numbers if a freshman were to try to register for the class and one of the open discussions like 105 or 106, they would become registered.

Need more detail on your situation to give more advice.

i’ll say 50/50 to give you hope but most likely 0%

The best method would be to get the prof to know you, and help you get into the class.

Does the rule apply. . … if you are in the section, you are in the class? Also, how do I find out my position on the discussion section waitlist?

more info. . . I am a sophmore, junior standing, intended psych major.

The categories have all gone to full status except for instructor approval. While the Open category was still available, had you switched to a discussion section with space, you would have become registered. The only reason I saw for your waitlist on Aug 11th, given your status as a junior but not yet declared, would have been that the particular discussion section you chose was full. However, that is water under the bridge at this point.

The instructor will pick and choose who to pull off the waitlist as openings occur. Contact the professor and make your case. At least have your name in the back of his/her mind when openings occur later.
