Chances of getting into UBC? (IB)

Hi,

My UBC application for computer science has been waitlisted.

Partly because of me not buttering my teachers up and because of my stubbornness to not cheat by memorizing past papers for my subjects (alongside my rather bad run of results in DP2, I wasn’t predicted a high score (36/45). I really believe I can easily push for the high 30’s and that 36 is rather harsh for my abilities. This is especially frustrating because most people who could achieve good predicted grades got a low conditional offer from UBC and other prestigious institutions.

Regardless, the past is the past and I have to look to the future but it’s difficult considering my future depends on the past…

My family is moving to Canada this summer and I’m getting desperate to get admitted to a university of UBC’s stature and I’m willing to do anything to prove my worth (including my performance in the May 2019 final exams).

Therefore, I would like to know what are my realistic chances of going to UBC considering these factors and the following tests which I have previously given:

SAT: 1350 (1370 superscore; 710 Math, 660 English)
SAT Math Level 2: 680
IELTS: 8.5 overall (9.0 speaking, 9.0 listening, 8.0 Reading, 7.0 Writing)

In addition, I have also been the Editor-in-chief for my school’s editorial board - an integral part of the student council. I have also previously been part of the school’s band and performed the synth keyboards/piano in various venues. Lastly, I have also taken part in various soccer competitions and I have been the starting player for my school’s team. I’ve represented my school in the district tournament for three years in a row.

I truly believe that I have what it takes to achieve wonders at UBC but this one number is holding me back from reaching my potential. I used to get straight 7s in my old school in MYP but moving to a new school, a new country has unfortunately taken a toll at my performances and I really regret not being able to do things again differently.

For my sanity, could the UBC community please let me know what my chances of getting in are? It would seriously be appreciated.

With Regards
