Chances of getting into UC Davis

Hello everyone, I am entering my senior year of high school and would love to see if I truly have a chance at getting into UC Davis.

-10-12 GPA weighted: 4.3 non-weighted: 3.9
-Sophomore year I only took 2 honors courses, but got straight As.
-Junior year I took 3 APs and 2 Honors. (only 1 B per semester in AP Physics)
-Senior year I am taking 3 APs.

-Volunteer: Have had an internship in an emergency room for a little over a year.
-Work/Job: I have worked at a restaurant for a little over a year.
-ECs:
Part of the CSF club. Key Club, physics club, Spanish club, debate team.
–(VP of CSF, treasurer of key club, and president/founder of Spanish club)
-VP of my senior class
-National honor society member and ambassador
-Awards: Honors english Soph year, honors anatomy and AP Spanish jr year
-SAT went terrible, highest I got was a 1700. It absolutely tore my apart, and I pretty much gave up all hope on getting accepted into Davis. I then began studying for the ACT, which I am actually taking Saturday. I truly believe I will get a 28+. I really have no choice, at least I feel like I don’t. They matter so much on the application.

I plan to major in Cell/Development Biology. I am planning to become an anesthesiologist.

Ethnicity: white
Income: less than $20,000
Parents divorced
Other struggles growing up that I will talk about in my essays.

I truly never give myself a break and I feel like all of my hard work will not pay off and that I will get rejected from UC Davis and every other UC. I don’t know if I’m being too harsh on myself or if I am just being realistic.

So, could you guys, based on this limited information, give me some feedback on my chances of getting into Davis? :/

(I worked, volunteered, and have been a part of those clubs from last summer, throughout the school year, up until now) I know the ECs don’t count as much… I’m a nervous wreck haha.

You’ll likely get in, it seems like you’re about at the average.

What did you end up getting on your act?

25 (without studying) I know it is very, very poor and does not help my chances at all. I have been studying every day and timing myself; I have improved significantly and plan on taking it again in September and I am shooting for at LEAST a 28. The only problem I faced was timing.

@leah96: Have you calculated your UC weighted GPA?? See link: <a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;
My older son got into UCD with an SAT of 25 (also a timing issue) and a UC GPA of 4.2 (unweighted 3.9) last year. He alluded to his timing issues in one of his essays plus his 2nd essay was really amazing. I believe that essay really helped him in the admission process. His major is Environmental Science which is not as competitive as many STEM majors. I think your major would not have as much competition as the straight Biology major. Just keep working on improving your ACT score and really spend time on your essays. It could make a difference. Good Luck.

Thank you so much. I believe my UC GPA is above a 4.0. I am starting to shoot ideas on a blank document right now for my essays. I am glad I am starting them early because I am having a difficult time! I am so worried that all of my hard work and sacrifices won’t pay off because of my poor standardized test scores compared to others’ on here. Thank you for your feedback! It helped a lot.
