Hi.
I am currently a student at a California CC and I am going to begin the process of transfer in the fall. My current GPA is a 3.27 and I am a psych major. What would my chances be of getting into the psych program with that GPA? I’m also juggling with the idea of applying as an African Americans studies major instead.
Psych is a very hard major to get in to. GPA will be important. African American studies pretty easy. Since you like the latter major, I would go with that.
You can see the avg GPA for admitted transfers by major here:

I am a Psych major and was accepted with a 3.91 GPA. I must say that 3.27 is extremely low considering their average admitted last year was 3.83. Most individuals who applied with a GPA around that number were rejected this year or rejected but accepted into their alternate major (thanks to TAP).
Without TAP and extraordinary ECs, I’d say very difficult to get into…
Average admitted African American Studies GPA was 3.3.
I was very brief in the OP due to me being on my phone.
Yeah, I realize that my GPA is very low. My first 3 semesters were very sub-par, but the last 4 semester I have done exceptionally well. I got a 4.0 in the last semester that just passed. I will be taking 2 classes in the summer and 4 in the fall. If I get As in those classes, I should see a significant spike in my GPA before sending off my transcripts in January. There’s also a class I received an F in, that I plan on getting rid of through academic renewal at the end of the fall semester which should also bring my GPA up to at least a 3.5, I’m hoping.
I’m also involved on campus which includes being president of the BSU, I volunteer to tutor middle school students, and I will be starting an internship at a non-profit youth program this summer with their counseling team.
