Chances of Getting into UCONN, Hofstra....

Hi,

Can you guys help me, I am applying to these schools:
UNH, UConn, St Johns NY, Hofstra, Bridgewater State, Bryant and UMASS Lowell

I Have a 3.0 GPA and a 1270 on the SAT (680 Math/590 Verbal) along with a 510 on the new writting section.

My class rank is something like 80/240

I Have Straight A's for my first quarter of my senior year (including AP Calculus)

I have 2 letters of Reccomendation coming (one from My AP calc teacher, and the other from a former math teacher who I am currently Interning for)

My major of choice is actuarial sciences but I would be happy being enrolled in any math related program (Statistics, Applied Math)

On December 3rd I am taking SAT 2s in both math subjects and I expect to get a 700 in at least one of them.

I am one quarter Puerto Rican.

For Extracurriculars and work I have
5 years Bass Guitar
4 Years as a cashier/Manager on Duty at a family owned toy store
2 years DECA member
1 year Math Team
1 year Drama stage Crew
and I plan to do Model UN and Mock Trial later this year
I didn't do alot of extracurriculars during my Freshman and Sophmore years because of my job, but the store closed and I was able to focus on extracurriculars and schoolwork more for my Senior year.

What do you think my chances of getting into these schools are. Will being one quarter Puerto Rican help my admissions chances at all. Feel free to suggest any other colleges you feel that would be a good match for me.

Your help is greatly appreciated

Dirk - The smaller schools will notice demonstrated interest and that can help your chances because the schools want to admit kids likely to actually attend. Visit the campus and if possible attend a class. Try to connect with the rep from the school that covers your area.
UNH match
UConn not sure -
St Johns NY don't know
Hofstra match
Bridgewater State safety
Bryant Match
UMASS Lowell safety

Whether or not you're a CT resident depends alot for UConn. If you are, I'd say you're a lock to get into UConn. If you're not a CT resident, I'd say UConn is a match.

From a person who's had the Hofstra experience and knows lots of people who have had the St. Johns experience, I would say you were probably in to both (matches, but not safeties - you never can be to sure with Hofstra...), even if you weren't 1/4 Puerto Rican.

I actually think Connecticut is a reach for the OP. People need to look at GPA first, which they don't on these boards. A 3.0 is well below Connecticut's standards. And their acceptance rate is barely over 50% (I think it's 55, not 100% on this though). The Puerto Rican won't help, as while you're 1/4 Puerto Rican, you're 3/4 non-Puerto Rican, meaning you're not Puerto Rican. The Class Rank isn't very high (33%), but the high senior year grades will help.
