Hello everyone! So my dream school is UCSB and I'm not completely sure of my chances getting into it, so if possible I would like to get everyone's opinion on the matter!
GPA: 3.83
SAT: (currently 1750 but recently retook it again and waiting on results)
ACT: 23
EC 9-12th: ultimate frisbee club (1 year), diy club (1 year - Vice President), UC pals (2 years)
I also do after school tutoring so if possible I'm going to incorporate that into my application somehow

Are you a California resident? Is your GPA weighted or unweighted? Also, what is your intended major?

Tutoring could be a job, if you’re paid, or volunteer work, if you’re not.

(Sorry for all the questions, it’s hard to chance you without more complete data)

I am a california resident, my GPA is weighted, and my intended major would be communications.

I also do volunteer work!

You’re slightly under average stats, but being a California resident helps. I’m not sure how communications compares to average admissions as a whole, but my general opinions:

Your GPA is a bit low, especially since it’s weighted. If you can explain it you might be okay.
Definitely aim high on the SAT! If you do well it will definitely raise your chances.
ECs seem a bit unrelated to your intended major, but if your volunteer work or tutoring is somewhat related you sound good.

I’m bad with overall chances, but I’d say a slight reach, but with good essays (and a better SAT score) you definitely have a chance. Good luck!

I know an AIME qualifier with an awful GPA (about 3.4 unweighted, 4.0 fully weighted, 3.8 capped UC) and a poor SAT score (2170). It makes sense that with such low stats, he was rejected by UCSB (and UCI). Yet, he somehow was accepted by UCD. I am so jealous of him because UCD waitlisted me.

My stats were pretty bad too. I had a low GPA (3.66 unweighted, 4.29 fully weighted, 4.00 capped UC) and an imperfect 2300 SAT score. I guess that was the reason why I was rejected by UCB, UCLA, UCSD, and Cal Poly SLO and waitlisted by UCD and UCI. I was accepted by UCSB, though.

I do not understand how UCD could accept my stupid classmate but not me. College admissions are strange like that. Your stats are not great, but perhaps you can get lucky like my classmate and be accepted by your dream school.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I just wasn’t sure since their average GPA was 4.1 and their average SAT is in the 1900s. I’m hoping a miracle will happen and I’ll get at least 50 more points on my most recent SAT! I’m sorry that you didn’t get accepted by your dream school, but amazing SAT score! @Mangiafuoco

UCSB: Low Reach unless SAT is around 1900+ then high match.
