Chances of getting into UCSB

Hey everyone,

So I’m a freshman in college right now at a community college in Southern Cali rn, plan on transferring to UCSB in the Fall of 2019 to major in Sociolgy, UCSB is my dream school and its only 1 hr and 1/2 away from home. Thing is, as of right now, I have 2 Fs, 1D, and 1W on my transcript. Do you think I still have a chance of getting into UCSB. The Fs , Ds and Ws aren’t in the prerequisite classes for Socio, but I’m just worried about my gpa since it’s a 2.7, probably will go down to 2.5 or 2.4 once this last F is submitted into my transcript. I plan on retaking the Fs and D no matter what before applying to UCSB. Also, I’m not really involved in anything at school. I volunteer and am in the honors program, but that’s it, i don’t stand out what so ever unfortunately. Your guys advice would really help me out, thanks!

retaking the grades below a C should replace them with your new grades. See http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/q-and-a/repeating/index.html

Rather than spending time worrying about dream schools you should instead figure out why you are doing poorly and what you need to do to fix it. Your CC should have a study skills center. Many students, it turns out, have never learned to study effectively. I recommend reading the book “Make it Stick” this summer; it explains what is known about learning and how HS/college students can apply it.
