Unfortunately, being the jackass slacker that I was junior year, my overall gpa from sophomore year and junior year weighted is about a 3.5, should get higher after first semester of senior year though. Anyways, I got an 1830 (600-critical reading, 540-math, 690-writing) on the SAT, a 28 on the ACT a 570 on my biology SAT II and i'm taking the literature SAT II sometime in the next couple months I think. I took three AP's my junior year, did pretty well, got a 4 on the english AP test, a 4 on the psych AP test, and an unmentionable 1 on the US test. I've been in the school band since I've been in school, have been and am the section leader of the french horns in our group, am a leader in the marching band, and have it in good with the music directors. I was in drumline for two years as well. Also, not to glorify myself, but I've been called a very talented artist, and that is basically my gift, drawing and painting and what not, unfortunately I only took two years of art because of squabbles with my horrific art teacher--I have no clue if art will do anything to help my chances unless I'm going to an art school. I've volunteered many hours at the local library and am volunteering a loooot of hours at a hospital right now because I hope to become a doctor some day. I'm a member of German club, vice president of the Gay-Straight Alliance at my school, president of the Women's Rights club at my school and I can guarantee a few fabulous essays because writing is my strong point. Anyways, I think that's about it, oy, I hope I can get in. Feedback would be marvelous!

I'm also from California, so it's in-state for me.

Reach: UC Santa Cruz
UC Santa Barbara

no place I really want to go inbetween, sucks to be so picky.

Safety: San Diego State
San Francisco State

You need to take the Math Level 2 SAT II before you can even apply to any UCs. I would make studying for the test a priority.

Right now, I wouldn't say that UC Santa Cruz is a huge reach for you, but more like a slight reach/match. Try to raise those test scores, if you get your SAT 2000+ and your SAT IIs at least 650+ you'll improve your chances greatly.

I think UCSC is a match for you..u might want to aim a little higher..UCD/UCSB/UCI..you should even try UCSD as your reach. YOur sat I score is solid..and you have a decent sat II scores..and your ec's are solid as well. Well i'll be applying to college this fall...so hopefully we will both get into the college of our choice! Good Luck!

are you sure that you have to take a math sat II? because i've talked to some college lady several times about the sat II's and she said you could take any 2 as long as they are of different subject matter-and since the first math sat II is incorporated into the SAT. but meh, i don't know, i'll have to talk to someone about that!

I'm not sure about the SAT question (I was a freshman applicant 2003 before all the changes), but I think you have a reach/match chance UCSC. UCSB is going to be quite harder to get into.

any more input would be extremely helpful, as i've been looking around this board i've become increasingly stressed out about the college situation, ha. percentages and what not perhaps.

also, include University of Washington, Seattle on my list up there as well as Western Washington - my out of state picks.

first of all UC is any two subject tests now

i dont know why people have told you UC santa cruz is a reach for you???? absolutely not. you're well in range for it, if not a little overqualified. i have known scores of people less qualified than you who have gotten in. it is one of the easiest UCs.

uc santa barbara and uc irvine is probably a fit for you.

All true, but SDSU can be really tough nowadays, with close to as many applicants as some top UCs. Keep in mind the massive overcrowding of SFSU and possibly SDSU.
