Hi,
I’m currently an IB junior and I’ve kind of been struggling with whether or not to even attempt applying to UF. These are my stats:
-UW: 3.2
-Weighted: 3.85
-During freshman year i got A’s and B’s but during sophomore year my grandma had a stroke and got hospitalized so my grades dropped DRASTICALLY to almost all C’s… It was basically like, 3 B’a 2 A’s and 3 C’s. This junior year I got better but i still get 2C’s. so you can kind of call me a C student. I also got a referral and suspension over this stupid prank that got blown out of proportion but i created a whole CAS project that is raising money for “bullying” organizations (i didn’t bully but i felt like this would kind of be a way to make up for my referral). I don’t know. I’ve been in a big service club for 3 years doing over +300 hours of volunteer work, I volunteered at the Dali, i go to lots of volunteering events. I don’t know writing this all out I feel like i shouldn’t even try applying to UF lol.Anyway, let me know what i should do ahhhh
I’m going to get straight A’s this semester which will probably bring up my grade significantly and i’m planning to take online classes over the summer to raise my GPA. I plan on making my college essay super inspirational and talk about how i had a downfall but i picked myself back up and did all this stuff to grow or something.
Oh also haha my ECs
Key Club, played tennis during Sophomore year, did a dance competition all 3 years, did piano freshmen year, Habitat for Humanity all 3 years, Cancer Support Group Club, Ukulele Club
idk what this counts for but i was in the talent show freshmen and sophomore year ?¿ i’m v like musical and stuff sports r not my thing HAHA!!! IDK
Why not apply? The application is what? $35? Apply to UF and several other schools and see what happens. Maybe UF’s holistic magic will work out for you (or not).
Just think of UF as a reach and make sure you find other schools that you would be more than happy to attend.
I agree with Gator88, you may be a long shot, but you have nothing to lose by applying. If your disciplinary action needs to be mentioned or will come up, then I think you need to address that in your essay as to how it affected you and made you look at things differently – that you responded to it in a positive way and are a better person for it.
Otherwise I think holistically it will be a negative.
Turn the Lemon into Gatorade!
Good luck.
are C’s an automatic rejection even if i brought it up to a 4.0 by the end of junior year
One or two C’s? No, but if you have too many, then it drags down your GPA, which is a negative.
I think @Gator88NE and @Trisherella have summed it up already- think of it this way. What’s the worst that could happen if you apply? You get rejected and can’t go to that school. But not applying will give you the exact same result anyway. So definitely go for it and apply! It’s worth a shot at least
do colleges look at grade trends more or GPA?
They look at both, but they also expect your test scores to reflect what you’re capable of. If they want you for other reasons (great activities, great essay, strong test scores) then they may overlook a less than stellar GPA IF the trend is upward. It all sort of works together.
