I know my GPA is relatively low as is my class rank. Would it be better for me to apply for regular decision and get my grades up first semester of senior year? Also, is there anything I can do to show my passion for engineering and technology? Do you guys know of any place I can get an online certificate or something in CS or CE? Any help/advice would be appreciated!

Besides UIUC, I’m also looking to apply to Purdue, University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, GeorgiaTech, and a few more schools. Do I have a shot? Thanks!

First semester grades will be out too late to really help. ACT is at 25th percentile for UIUC engineering. Class rank seems on the lower end. If you are OOS, this is definitely a high stretch. You are a low stretch for in-state.

It depends on your major. I have 2 college students so based on their experiences, I would say you have a shot at Purdue and Georgia Tech. Michigan and UIUC may be more difficult to guess. If you have visited campus, use your personal experience from that day in your essays.

Highly improbable to get into GTECH as GPA and rigor of high school courses are of prime importance as an OOS applicant. I am not sure where @mybstnw is getting his/her info. Lot of misinformation being spread.
