I think I have a good shot at UMBC. I recognize my SAT scores are a little low when compared to UMCP's average but i feel i make up for it in everything else. My gpa's high becasue I work hard in school and care deeply about the classes i take. I like getting involved in school activities and helping out whenever i can. I do not feel the SAT represents my full potential and i hope these schools can look past it and recognize what i am fully capable of.

So what do you guys think?

I don’t know why you are worrying about UMBC. I know a lot of people that got in with 1600’s on the SATs, limited ECs, 2-3 AP classes, and 3.2 GPA’s. UMBC is NOT a difficult school to get into, you’ll be fine. It was a mistake to take the Math I Subject test though, most colleges don’t take it that seriously, it’s basically the same as the math section on the regular SAT. And it’s even more disappointing that you scored only a 590 on it. But don’t worry about subject test scores, they don’t mean anything to UMCP and UMBC. They both will accept it, but neither even go out to say that they recommend it. You far exceed UMBC’s admission criteria. UMCP there’s a slight chance you might get rejected, but I highly highly doubt it. You meet or exceed most of their criteria. A lot of the ECs you mentioned are insignificant, like the Rec basketball, since it seems that you did that while you were in middle school. However, editor of Key Club and all of the impressive musical accomplishments you have, along with the AP Scholar and Maryland Distinguished Scholar Honorable Mention, I’m about 95% sure you will get in. The only way you can get rejected is if you manage to have a horrible essay. Good luck!

Sorry if some of that was mean, but I’m trying to give you an honest answer.

@ minhaz3, when was your friend admitted to UMBC? They have begun to be more selective in their admissions process now.

Minhaz3 Thank You very much for your feedback. I always want the truth. You were not mean and I appreciate the honesty. I will just wait and pray now for the best!
Do you attend UMBC or UMCP becasue you seem to have a good understanding of the schools around here!
