Chances of getting into University of Michigan?

Hi,

I’m currently a high school senior with University of Michigan as my top choice. I’ve been hearing a lot of conflicting things of how qualified you really have to be to get in, so I was just curious what someone else might think. Here are my credentials:

3.7 UW GPA, 4.2 W
29 ACT
Top 10% in class

Junior year classes:

HL Chemistry - B
HL History of the Americas - A
SL Spanish 4 - B
SL Math II - B
HL Literature - A
SL Business Management - B
Theory of Knowledge - A
Wind Ensemble - A
News Broadcasting - A

(switched to AP)

Senior year classes:
AP Literature
Practical Sciences and Engineering
AP Human Geography
AP Calc
News Broadcasting
Rocky (gym class)
Wind Ensemble

ECs or unique things:
Principal chair trumpet in wind ensemble 4 years straight
Head Editor for news broadcasting program: won the school’s annual film festival
Youth Symphony- principal chair
Camp counselor
Brass quintet - principal chair

I’m applying to the college of Literature, Sciences, and the Arts with the intent of studying film and English. I want to go into filmmaking as a career, but I do want to major in something like English or History while still studying film.

Let me know what you think, I really appreciate any input.

UMich is also my top choice too.I have a 29,30 super score, 3.9 unweighted, and lots of social justice ecs? You have decent ECs and in the range of accepted students act range and gpa. It’s a reach for you but why not apply. That’s what I’m doing! Are you in state or out of state? What is the rigor of your school? Are you applying EA? Good luck

Yeah I have a 30 super score too. I’m out of state, in Colorado. My high school is IB and is very competitive. I am applying EA. Thanks for your input!

You have a good chance at LSA. If you were applying to engineering, you’d need a 31 at least, but at LSA, a 29 should be fine with a 3.7 GPA

I have very similar stats as OP, would these stats be good for their School of Music

Like stated above, LS&A varies in academic requirements since it spans a lot of majors. Also, keep in mind that applying as out-of-state is a completely different ball game than apply as in-state. On a final note, a 29 ACT is a bit iffy. Might want to retake one more time and shoot for at least 30. That one point makes a huge visual difference.
Best of luck.
