Chances of getting into University of Washington? And then CS?

I’m currently a junior and was hoping to get some advice before it’s time to apply. How likely is it that I’ll be able to get in if…

I hold a 3.93 GPA (unweighted) as of right now. The grades weighing me down are an A- in the trimester AP Microeconomics (which will probably be changed to an A if I score a 4 or 5 on the AP exam) and math analysis (precalc) the first semester of biology and freshmen language arts. Other AP classes I’ve taken are Macroeconomics, Physics A, and Computer Science A and I received an A in all three. I scored a 1300 on the SAT which is about the average at UW but I’ll be retaking it until I get 1400. I haven’t taken the ACT and I don’t think I’d do too well on it tbh but should I take it anyways?

Extracurricular activities I’ve been involved with are FBLA, Gordy’s Guides (freshmen mentorship program), National Honor Society, badminton club, earth corp, table tennis Club, IGNITE/computer science club, volleyball, and track.

Leadership positions include being the co-founder and co-president of badminton club and a gordy’s guide executive member where I planned activities for the mentors to do with freshmen.

Some of the bigger services and community activities I’ve done are becoming a Vietnamese teacher at a Vietnamese school. I became a student there at age 7 and finished at 15 but was apart of the school dance group and events since I was 5. I became a teacher after finishing all the levels and represented the school at public events. Under the schools name, I’ve volunteered at Tet In Seattle every year as a performer and guide as well. I’ve also done peer tutoring in Spanish for a classmate who had ADHD.

I don’t have any awards or recognition other than the ones in FBLA, which are:
6th in state in Introduction to FBLA
6th in state in Social Media Campaign
State finalist in Publication Design
1st in region in Social Media Campaign
2nd in region in Introduction to FBLA
3rd in region in Publication Design
4th in region in Social Media Campaign
6th in region in Public Service Announcement

I feel like this isn’t enough compared to the other kids in my class to get into just the school. I still have to worry about getting into CS too! I’m doing running start this year and plan on taking maybe 2-3 CS college classes + cyber security at school. Do the grades in math reflect poorly? :frowning: Did well in the class with an A then BOMBED the final because of the weird final exam format that was supposed to be ‘easier’. I’ll be taking two college calc classes too and my smartest friends only got a B in that class so I don’t know if I can get that A to redeem myself. Maybe I should shoot for foster.

Anyways, anything is GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanks everyone

hey, I’m a senior at a public HS near Seattle and I’ll be attending UW this fall for CS. We send about 10-15 kids to UW CS direct admit every year and just from anecdotal experience, it seems like UW is heavily focused on stats. Most people that got in did IB Diploma, had around 3.95+ GPAs, and 1500+ SAT. Sadly extracurriculars and essays didn’t seem to matter that much—basically just high grades/SAT.

Your GPA is okay, so really the only limiting factor is your SAT. If you improve it to ~1500 you’ll definitely have a fighting chance. I know a couple people that got rejected from CS but appealed and got in, so if it comes to that, I’d take that option.

Good luck and if you have any more questions I’ll be happy to answer!

Yeah, definitely gotta up that SAT. I had the worst stomachache in my life the entire time so lucky me.

I was wondering if you could tell me about how you got into CS and some tips on what I should do now. I initially wanted to go into business and my HS only offers computer programming and APCS so I’m SUPER behind because of this. The fact that most students will have to get DA from now on doesn’t help either.

Also, congrats on getting in! That’s huge
