Chances of getting into University of Washington?

<p>Here are my stats, not so pleasant but just curious to know what my chances of getting in UW are..thanks for helping!</p>

<p>GPA: 3.69 unweighted.
[NOTE: This was due to an attendance problem :(. Because of lack of communication between the school and my house over the summer (I was gone to the learning center often, and everyone else was in Korea then), I couldn't do the reinstatement project and eventually failed one class. I explained to them that I would make it up in Spring when I take an online course...but yeah, it shows up as an F on the transcript. I had 10 1/3 absences (mainly due to tardies, because my brother wouldn't wake up early enough and he didn't take the punishment because his first period class was up the hill and didn't have bells). If I had kept the A-, it would be 3.85...but they wouldn't care anyways. This is the reason why I'm feeling so unsure about getting in UW]</p>

<p>SAT I:
06/2005: 1850/2400 (Math: 670, Reading: 530, Writing: 650)
10/2005: 1970/2400 (Math: 740, Reading: 600, Writing: 630) </p>

<p>SAT II:
11/2005: USHistory: 510, Math Lvl.1: 660</p>

<p>Extracurricular:
-I taught as a Ba-dook teacher for my Korean church.
-Tae-Kwon-Do + Gum-Do.
-Piano.
-Violin + Violinist for Tacoma Youth Symphony.
-Medical Transcriptionist for Group Health Clinic.</p>

<p>I'm Asian.</p>

<p>No AP :(. I have a recommendation, but didn't send one in. Should I send it in now or is it too late?</p>

<p>Honors in English this year, Trig for junior year, Calculus for this year.</p>

<p>I attend a private Christian school.</p>

<p>Years of English completed: 4
Years of Math completed: 4
Years of Social Science completed: 4
Years of Foreign Language completed: 2
Years of Science completed: 3
Years of Fine, Visual, or Performing Arts completed: .5</p>

<p>Application sent on December 11th.</p>

<p>And oh...a couple more colleges I will be attending, if you have the time, what about these?:</p>

<p>Don't worry about UW. You're SATs are at or above their average and your GPA is right where it should be. Historically the UW used the academic index to determine admission, so race, ecs, life circumstances, etc, weren't so important, but now that the UW is trying to raise its profile as a more competitive state school, its taking a more holistic approach to its applicants. Even still I think you're just fine.</p>

<p>The deadline is January 15 so you can still send in the recommendation.</p>

<p>As for the others NYU, U Michigan, Notre Dame, and Georgetown are slight, moderate and extreme reaches respectively. Western seems below you.</p>

<p>Western was my safety pick...strange how a year ago, I thought UW was so easy and I had a chance at Harvard and such...</p>

<p>Well maybe "extreme" was too extreme of a word. Georgetown is probably the thoughest school of the lot, and that's the school I was refering to. NYU actually looks like a match, but the process is complicated by the fact that so many apply.</p>

<p>I feel you on the reality setting in comment. I know a guy who last year for some reason beyond my understanding thought that he was a shoe in at Princeton and then got 1930 on the SAT and is now putting all faith into UW. I just hope everyone gets what they want. Including me.</p>

<p>NYU weighs scores very heavily, i know they really take a good hard look at the school record and standardized test scores</p>

<p>you might be able to pass through the GPA portion, you never know. most private schools have a section on their application where you can do any explaining that you need to do. your SAT is strong, probably just where it should need to be for NYU but i dont know how heavily they'll look at your SAT subject tests.</p>

<p>well, you never know. i'm no adcom, that's the only thing i can tell you for sure.</p>

<p>my bad, i meant wsu. i always seem to get confused with the two...but yes, I applied to WSU...not only my safety, but it's also a consideration since i know way too many friends that will go there, so i can at least start on good grounds.</p>

<p>though i'm still curious...not quite confident, especially when i headed over the UW subforums and saw a bunch of em entering with 2000+ SATs and 3.8+ GPAs... :|</p>

<p>Anyways..I forgot to add one more thing once again...not sure if it matters lots, but my dad also attended UW...maybe it'll matter, but just puttin that in.</p>

<p>man...all of a sudden, i just have this big urge to go to UW, nowhere else...i'll meet friends + great university + 30 min. drive from home. Just perfect.</p>

<p>yea..UW is a good school and alumni helps with WSU not sure about UW...but it is close to home..as long as you dont go past sammamish/issaquah...and the SAT and GPA is really good. I know someone who has a 3.4 GPA (IB Diploma) and 2010 on SAT's and has UW as their safety! you should do fine.</p>

<p>it will be a deciding factor..but a 3.69 is pretty solid..what hs do you go to? some high schools like skyline for example have a huge advantage over places like bellevue or newport..at least thats what the counselors say at garfield..</p>

<p>tacoma baptist...small, no AP offered, just honors...the whole school is about 500 kids, and there are about 40 in my class. so yea :T</p>

<p>UW looks at students hollistically now, so its chill, I think u have a decent chance.</p>

<p>I might be a little tense about the UW, just because of the transcripted F...but if you want my opinion, I don't think you should worry too much. Your ECs are good, your test scores could be a lot worse...I'd estimate your odds are about 80-85% (then again, I'm just a random 18-year-old in front of a computer...they could be a lot higher).</p>

<p>Western and WSU are even safer than UW. You won't have any problem getting in there.</p>

<p>The other schools, I don't know too much about...but, from what I've seen other people posting about them, you should get into at least two or three.</p>

<p>I'm from Burien (in case you don't know where that is, it's about 20 minutes south of downtown Seattle). Yay for Washingtonians!</p>

<p>Heh...here's an odd thought...what if we ended up knowing each other in the fall at the UW, and didn't realize we already knew each other from CollegeConfidential?</p>

<p>80-85% sounds good, im just wonderin when i'd get notified online..i sent the app on the 11th of december; still pending.</p>

<p>Did you submit your application to UW yet?</p>

<p>Make sure to write a little something for the 'Additional Comments' section of the application, explaining why you got an F.</p>

<p>I was in contact with Paul (the Associate Director of Admission) and he told me that UW admissions REALLY does look at it.</p>

<p>Paul also told me that the rigor of a class is VERY important. If you have a 4.0 with no honors/AP whatsoever, it's not going to do you any good. so make sure to explain how your school doesnt offer AP, etc.</p>

<p>Take UW's new 'holistic' approach to heart. I've seen people with 3.6's get rejected, while some with 3.1's get in. Admissions to UW is very unpredictable.</p>

<p>Being Asian won't help you, since Asians are an ORM (over-represented minority). Just so you know =p</p>

<p>As for 'regular decision'... UW doesn't have 'regular decision'. They are on rolling admissions.. most people should should hear in about 6-8 weeks after submission. BUT, most people get their letters around Feb. or April...</p>

<p>You are not notified of your admission online.. HOWEVER, there is a way to check. if your application status is 'reviewed and final decision pending'.. click 'students' (on the original myuw page) on the left side.. scroll down, on the left column should be 'unofficial transcript'. Click it.. if you get an actual page (that is not broken) with a student ID number, it means you're in.</p>

<p>My friend already got in (she got a letter)... she had it before the priority date, though.</p>

<p>as for Washington state....... easy easy easy. I submitted my UW essay (which has nothing to do with WSU's essay prompt), and heard back in 2 weeks. =)</p>

<p>Western is another story.. they are a bit more competitive but you should be fine!</p>
