I am a junior now and will go to college in the fall of 2014
By the time i graduate high school i will have a 3.96 GPA, will have taken 12 AP classes, been in the football team for 2 years and have been in volleyball for one year. I will volunteer at a local elementary school that i went to while in elementary. I plan to get 4's or better on all my exit exams for my AP's. I would be the second person to attend college oother then my cousin. my SAT's will be around 1950 and my ACT will be around 25. As of that what will be my chances of getting into USC.

You have a good chance of getting in. Im not sure about a huge scholorship though

You tell us a lot about what you’re going to do, can you tell us a little bit about where you are now? What is your current unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale? It’s a little unusual for a junior to have already taken the ACT & SAT, are these practice scores or actual results?

An UW 3.96/4.00 is a very strong GPA but your test scores are low for USC. The SAT is right at the 25th%-tile and your ACT is well below. This would be the first area to practice and improve on.

Do any of you USC people know what the stats would be on the low side for someone going for a BFA acting major? What sort of GPA and test scores would lets say a professional child actor that is sort of known in the industry and has well known work need with a good audition? This kid is working really hard in school just wants a target and range and is not hoping to get by on the fact he is a child actor.

shacherry,

You’ll probably have more luck asking this question in the USC forum here on CC. I can’t speak to the impact of being a “sort of known in the industry” actor will be on the application. Generally speaking, a university’s biggest worry is that an applicant tries to get into a school based on their artistic talent then changes majors. The concern becomes that they’ll be unable to hold their own in the classroom.

That said, I would speculate that an audition applicant should shoot to be in shouting distance of the 25th%-tile of ACT/SAT and to be at least somewhat close on GPA. In the case of USC, based on the 2011-entering class the 25th%-tile ACT was 30 and the SAT a 2020. The average admit had a 3.8. I’m guessing that a 3.5/28/1900 with a great audition/portfolio would be a good place to shoot for.

Thanks! That is very helpful.
