So, I hear your sophomore and junior years are the most important years of High School. During my sophomore year, I got a 4.0 the first semester and a 3.33 the second semester. I'm a junior and I'm in the I.B programme. I'm expecting to get a 4.0 (weighted, 3.1 unweighted) this first semester. I was just wondering if my chances are shot at getting into USCD or USC .. or what my chances are at all. Thanks.

A 3.1 unweighted doesn't bode well for UCSD. We'd need to know your UC GPA to give you an accurate view. USC might be a little tough, too.

USC is miles more selective than UCSD. Their departments selection rates range from 20% to 2%, while UCSD lingers at a 35% for basically everything.

Remember, 20,000+ kids apply every year to UC schools every year. 50,000 to LA last year...

With a solid essay, decent e.c, and a little praying...you definitely have a shot.

However, a 3.1 unweighted is VERY unattractive. The U.C schools begin scrapping extra points if they see a major dip in UW GPA.
