Chances of getting into UT Austin Nursing program??

I am currently a senior in high school and I applied to UT with my first choice major as nursing and my second choice Education. UT is my dream school, but I go to a small, non-ranking private school and it is very difficult for us to get into UT. I know that my chances aren't very good for being accepted, but what do yall think?

ACT: 29
GPA: 3.8 (out of 4.0)
Essays: Good, I worked on them for months and am proud of them
Member of NHS, cheer captain, all-american cheerleader, member of multiple clubs, good rec letters, 96 hours of community service in a hospital (hoping that will help with the nursing major), 160 hours of community service total.

Please please please tell me what you think my chances are! I want to be a longhorn so badly!

Class rank seems to be super important at UT so its hard to chance anyone without it.

I am trying to get into UT as well this year. I have talked to multiple teachers and fellow students about my chances, even some college personnel. I have found a good way to project your admittance (keep in mind I haven’t been admitted) is by using sites like ■■■■■■■■■■ and **************.com, both give you a projection based on test scores, gpa, and extra curricular activities. There is no way to know if you will get in to UT for sure simply because the only way to know is if you are top 8%. UT’s nursing major did have one of the lower entrance SAT averages last year, based on what you said your “stats” are you seem like a fairly likely candidate. Good luck fellow class of 2015 hopeful :)

Best wishes to you both. I hope you are admitted to a school that wants you back, makes you feel welcome and inspires you.

I’m quite disappointed by UT’s lack of openess and lack of meaningful information. Could be because of prior lawsuits they are scared to give out too much information. How sad …

I tend to think that the best treatment a college is going to give you is when you are a potential customer/student. If it goes downhill from here … what is the point in writing checks to them instead of another U?

Falling out of love with UT Austin, fast … hope your experience is much more positive.

I am also applying to the UT’s nursing program but as a transfer student. Did you put pre-nursing as your major? I attended a nursing information session at UT not to long ago and they said that you have to do all the pre-nursing and pre-req (66 hrs) courses first. Then you can apply to the upper division courses.

I also received some stats from the session-

Enrollment for Fall 2010:

Pre-nursing 463
Upper division 302

•Avg GPA for applicant pool was 3.5-3.6
• admit 55%-60% of applicant pool
•All had some volunteer and/or work experience in health or community activities

I hope some of this info will help you out. :)

This is an old thread, but I just wanted to put in a little input in case any future applicants come across this (like I did when I was going through the process of applying.) UT recently updated their nursing program so that you are automatically guaranteed acceptance for all four years once you are accepted into the program your freshman year (which is a big deal.) Consequently, they also made it more difficult to get in. The acceptance rate was 17% out of ~1,000 applicants for the upcoming class of 2018. I’ll be entering the UT Nursing program as a freshman this fall, so if you have any questions feel free to message me!

Hey! I’m actually applying this year and I wanted to know if you could check out my essays? And I know they review the applications holistically but can you tell me about your grades and everything so maybe I can see if I have a chance or I can tell you more about my grades

Just curious. Around what month did you get your exceptance letter to UT school of nursing? Daughter is waiting lol
