I want to be a mechanical engineer, but I’m not sure if I will be able to get into UT or A&M’s programs for engineering. I am an asian female.

I think you have a really good shot. Just make sure you spend time writing passionate essays.
UT Austin is a reach. Their average ACT is a 32 and top 4 % class rank for engineering. It would be a reach even if you were top 7 percent, but the fact that you are not an auto admit makes it even harder for you to get in. Being female will help to an extent.
A&M is a match to a high match. Not a safety, but I think you have a decent shot.
Thread Update: I got into both schools! I was expecting to be rejected from UT after reading online of so many other people be rejected, but I unexpectedly got in. I was notified by UT in early December/late November. TAMU accepted me late November. I guess all I have to do now is decide which school is best for me. Thanks guys!
