I am wondering what are my chances into getting into UW as its the only school I want to go to. I have a 3.25GPA from a community college in WA state. I have taken 100~ credits so far. I am in-state, Asian, male (if that helps). I don't play any sports or have any community service. I do work full time as a system administrator (50+ hours a week) and I plan on going into computer science at UW.

Extremely low. GPA is really low. You’ve also taken way to many credits. It might looks like you don’t really know what you want to do with you college career. You’ll want to explain that in your essay. Too many credits at CC can act as a hindrance. Also they will only transfer 90 over anyways. Hopefully out of all those credits, you’ve taken all that you need to settle the prereq for the major (that’s what they look for). You might want to seriously think about making an appointment with admissions and asking them for guidance.

Sorry I made a typo there my GPA is actually 3.35 and my major is going to be computer science.

same answer, sorry

Yes, agree with travelgirl. Unfortunately, transfer applicants are very competitive in terms of GPA. It’ll be even harder to get into the CSE department since you’ll be competing with people in your graduation year. Since you’ve had enough credits to be considered a junior, you’re applying for the major during a time that many of the spots have been filled up already. Application into the CSE department is VERY competitive. If you’ve had very strong grades (3.8-4.0) in the prerequisites, such as Intro to Programming I/II (cse 142/143 at UW) then you’d have a good chance in getting in. Otherwise, if you transfer successfuly, you may find that you can’t get into the program.

Thanks! I will give it a shot, I got 4.0 in all my programming classes including 142/143

I know a 3.25 or 3.35 is not a very high gpa but isnt it decent for a transfer student. I read that the average gpa for transfers was 3.44 and transfers admissions were roughly 50%.

I’m sorry, was that a question? If so, the answer is no. That’s actually just a bad GPA, either for a regular or transfer student.

Your mistake was averaging the range of transfer GPAs, from 3.1 to 3.7. That’s the average range–averaging that will not get you the average GPA of a transfer student.

Transfer from where? CC, state school, OOS?

On the tap packet it states that the average transfer gpa for 2009 was a 3.44
Cheers

@uwchances I know this post is old, but what happened with your application?
