I was on High Honor Roll every year of high school and I am in Honor Society

I am planning on applying for Engineering

Let me know what you think!!! Thanks!!

If ED you have a chance but if it is RD very tough, at that point you have to deal with very competetive candidates who didn’t get into IVYs. Now acceptance rate is 12%.

Yes, I did ED there!!

With ED you will be competitive, but since you applied to the engineering school it will be a little harder. Maybe consider calling the office and switch from engineering to Arts and Sciences and putting your interest in math since you seem to like engineering. Their engineering school is a lot harder to get into.

even for a girl?

I would still say so. Statistically, she might have a slightly higher chance as a girl, but I don’t think it will be significant. She will be competing against people with 800 SAT IIs in Math, people who’ve already taken Calculus AB/BC and received 5’s, people in Mu Alpha Theta, and even people who attended the PAVE (Preparatory Academics for Vanderbilt ENGINEERS) summer program. I think she will have a much better shot with Arts and Sciences. Look at her ECs (cardiologists office, nursing home, etc.) not engineering geared.

Plus, Vandy will most likely admit more students ED through arts and sciences and peabody than engineering…

Persiandad is more informed than me, which I agree, but

 1. We were told by ADCOMS from Vanderbilt that they don’t care about SAT 2 scores.
 2. There are other posts in CC where they say PAVE doesn’t mean much

Why thank you, fatherofm. Your right, PAVE wont mean MUCH, but it is a huge recruitment tool for the school in the engineering aspect. I participated over the summer, although I am not engineering geared, and a large chunk of the 200 other kids who participated will be applying early through engineering. Some kids were ridiculously bright and brandished high test scores and others were in the mid range. I think the OP has a good chance, but she will have an even better chance if she applies to a different school than engineering. The admissions counselor that I met with over the summer insinuated that SAT IIs weren’t that influential on apps, however, if they were really good, they could help push the app in the right direction. Getting back to the PAVE topic, it wont solely get kids into the school, but it is a nice gold star on the app. I mean they love kids who stayed on their campus for 6 weeks.

I hope so for your sake. My dauoghter attended Brown summer program for 6 weeks and her cousins attended Harvard and Cornell summer programs and I don’t think they matter much in ultimate selection. This is well known fact, Vanderbilt admissions(unless it changes this year) is score driven.

Bear in mind though, Vanderbilt’s admissions ED admissions aren’t exactly comparable to the Ivies you listed. Admissions are score driven, but as long as you have a 3x or a 2xxx on the ACT or SAT with strong grades, alternate test scores, and ECs, you are considered and put into the discussion. ACT Middle 50% range for last year’s ED was 31-33

Ok thank you both so much for the advice!!
