Chances of getting into Vassar?

Hey everyone, sorry if this post is like all the others out there, but it definitely lends some peace of mind! My GPA is on the low side, but I'm hoping my SAT and ACT scores make up for it. I really appreciate any opinions!

GPA: Unweighted: 89 or 90, although I'm not sure what that is on a 4.0 scale
Weighted: 94 (again, I don't know what that is on a 4.0 scale)

Class Rank: 49 of 401
I've taken 6 AP classes, which is the most I could have taken. My school only allowed Juniors and Seniors to take AP's, until my Junior year when they finally allowed Sophomores to take them. Because of scheduling conflicts with mandatory classes, I could only take 3 AP classes a year. Everything else is Honors+

SAT: 2150 CR: 740 M:740 W:670

ACT: 33 E: 34 M: 33 R: 35 S: 29 Combined English/Writing: 30 Essay subscore: 7

SAT 2: US: 740 Math 2: 730

EC: Volunteered at an Equestrian therapy center and at an animal shelter for about a year.
I've been to a few leadership conferences, and have held a job instructing a local martial arts academy.
I've been a Varsity wrestler for 4 years and have won my sectional tournament twice.
I've competed in Judo since I was 5, and have won multiple national tournaments and been on two international teams. However, I will not be competing in any sports at Vassar.
I've been a member of my Debate club (my school doesn't have a debate team) for four years. Also been on the Math team for 2 years.
I'm bilingual, and am a first generation Russian American.

My recommendations are solid, and I think that my essays are pretty good too.
Thank you for any feedback!

I hate to be negative, but don’t have your hopes up too high. You have a chance, but you’re far from a shoo in. I was rejected with a 2100 and 3.5 GPA, which is only a little lower. It’ll basically all be on your essays.

Good luck :)

Ok so your GPA translates to approximatley 3.5 Although If your essay and recommendations are really stellar, than you could have a decent chance

Well, Turntabler, one must realize that Vassar looks at the whole individual and, out of two individuals with very similar academic states, one might get in and one might not. Or they both could get in, or both get rejected.

Just because YOU didn’t get in does not mean that this person shouldn’t ‘have your hopes up too high.’ You don’t know their circumstances, and I know plenty of people here with stats like that. Your case =/= all other cases.

No one should expect that they are a shoo-in, not just this person. It’s a highly selective school, but this person has as good a chance as any for getting in.

Thanks for the responses! And that’s generally the feel that I have, that I have a chance at getting in, but nothing’s guaranteed. I figured I had to stand out as much as possible, so my college essay was about George Costanza, haircuts, and Russian holidays. Let’s hope that the admission officers at Vassar are fans of Seinfeld!

Revisiting this thread, and I stand by the fact that a 3.6 has a better chance than a 3.5 has a better chance than a 3.4.

Vassar looks at the whole individual only up to a point. Unless someone has a hook (and first generation Russian American may count), grades matter a LOT, even at Vassar, as do SATs.

Ultimately, I’m not bitter about my rejection, since it allowed me to see that applying early decision to a school I never visited was very unwise. I’ve since seen that there are other schools at which I would fit in better.

Anyway, good luck again.

Thanks again for the comments everyone! And @turntabler you were right, rejected. Oh well, kinda hard to get into a class of 660 from a pool of 8000. Still, best of luck to you guys if you’re still waiting on colleges, or weighing one over the other.

Hi, I wanted to know what my chances look like.
I’m a white female from a small town in Montana. I spent my sophomore year attending school in South America, I speak three languages, I have participated in Model UN for 4 years, Academic Olympiad for 4 years, Academic Worldquest for 2 years, founded a Girl Up club, am a teen advisor to the United Nations’s Girl Up foundation, intern with my city’s manager, have a job working at a watch company, am the treasurer of my student council, am studying documentary making in Cuba this summer.
I am the valedictorian of my class and got a 33 on my ACT.
