Hello, I’m a high school junior, VA resident. I’ve had a very vigorous high school schedule so far–no study blocks, six APs plus probably four next year, six years Latin, four Japanese, three Chinese–but now that I’m looking at the admissions page for William and Mary, my current first choice, I’m worried that I haven’t planned to do Calculus or Physics. I have had both Algebras, Geometry, and am now in AP Stat; my plan was to not take math next year. My GPA at the end of sophomore year was around 3.9 unweighted, 4.0 weighted (my school adds .0488 for an A in AP), and I’ll probably have a 4.2 or 4.3 after this year, but I’m still worried whether this will hurt my chances. I didn’t take those classes because I really didn’t want to, but would it be wise to do Math Analysis over the summer and try to do them next year? Would taking just Math Analysis make a difference? Thanks if you read all this.
The most selective colleges all but require 4 years of high school math. It doesn’t have to be Calc, but you need to take a math class senior year
Hi, sorry if this is an obvious question, but does it make any difference that AP Stat is my fifth math credit? Would it be okay if I took Analysis over the summer and then no math next year? Thanks for responding.
I’d like to ask: Are you in Northern Virginia? If you are, I’m assuming you’re in Fairfax, because Japanese. Unfortunately, being from that lovely region of the Great Triangle State lowers your chances pretty much everywhere, which sucks, but it’s not as bad as Loudoun. But yes, take Analysis and then calculus. I’d highly recommend Physics.
