I LOVE W&M, but am scared I may not get in. I go to a very competitive high school in Howard County, MD with extremely hard courses and teachers. I am a junior but am on track to get a 4.0 for the year. If I maintain this my GPA at the end of junior year will be UW: 3.76 and Weighted: 4.45. I take mostly AP, GT, and Honors courses. I have not yet taken the SAT but got a 2060 on a mock SAT given by a tutor at my school.

Do I have a good chance? Thanks!

You are a great student. You might go to W&M’s website to find out what percent of OOS students they will
admit. State schools in VA are bound by law to admit a certain percentage of in state students. From what I’ve read here that the chance of an OOS student receiving any financial aid is very low. You should be running financial calculations with your parents to see if it’s even worth spending the money to apply.

You seem to be very strong. Extra Curriculars and leadership are HUGE for The College and you being very involved in a few is incredibly important. In my case, it seemed like W&M cared more about my transcript and what I did with EC’s than they were with my test scores. Your transcript is phenomenal as it’s very rigorous and you’re still doing well with it.

Unfortunately for you, you’re OOS, which means you have a mountain to climb, especially now when the school is attempting to admit more and more Virginians. (the William & Mary Promise), It’s the greatest thing in the world if you live in state but it doesn’t help you much OOS.

Make sure you can write well; the essay is probably the deciding factor in many student’s apps because the essay allows the committee to actually get a glimpse of who you are.

My advice for you: if The College is truly your dream school then apply early-it’s binding. ED has a higher acceptance rate because fewer apply this year I think it was (1200-1400 apps), and this it is easier for OOS to get in ED. I went in ED and I feel it helped me.

Do the interview. Easily the most enjoyable part of the application process by far and the interview is actually something they use in the admissions process.

Do the supplement essay. Have fun with it. I wrote about comedy and sports, write about whatever your heart desires, just make sure it’s you.

Best of luck with this year and your app next year. We would love to have you join the Tribe Family!
