Hi everyone!
I applied EA to WPI and was deferred so I was wondering what people opinions were on be being admitted in the regular decision pool.
SAT: 1390
GPA: 3.52/4.0
I have many extra curricular under my belt such as a 4 year varsity gymnast (captain this year), volunteer at hospital, Best Buddies club, Connect and commit club (community service club through school), a service trip to Guatemala (twice), and work experience at a gymnastics gym.
I have been in contact with my admissions counselor for some time and I had a great interview
Thank you in advance!
@GracePic - To gauge your chances, google WPI’s Common Data Set to see how many applicants who were deferred from EA pool in recent years got in during the RD round. Also, if WPI is your first choice, send an email to your admissions rep reaffirming your interest. I saw from an earlier thread that you have visited the college so that’s good and here you say that you did interview. Did you ever pursue Bates and Skidmore as also noted on that thread? Good luck
Just finished looking all over the place and was not able to locate the acceptance rate breakouts for EA and RA admissions.
Just looking at the numbers for the last admitted class in Fall of 2018:
- 80.7% of the matriculating class had GPAs > 3.74;
- Biology and Biotechnology accepted about 46% of applicants;
- Biomedical Engineering accepted 50% of applicants;
- Just for comparison, CS accepted 37% of applicants.
It sounds like the interview went well and RA should be easier for the BB and the BE areas than CS. GPA is not working for you, but they would probably still like to raise that women to men ratio. Most every department experienced a growth in overall return rate of students accepting offers. The rate increased from 22% to 27% and the average GPA jumped to a new high of 3.89.
Wish I could give a better answer. Admission should not be ruled out, but look hard at your alternatives.
@ChillDad Thank you! I have been in contact with my counselor for sometime and have expressed my interest to her. After I was deferred I applied ED II to Bates, as well as RD to Skidmore! I am waiting for Bates to come back, expecting rejection but I thought I would give myself the best chance, and then I will see how WPI works out! Thank you for the help!!
@retiredfarmer Thank you so much for your help! I have a couple safeties to pick from so if nothing else works out I have some good options!
@GracePic
Was just looking at latest admission data from the current WPI freshman class. They admitted 53% of the women applicants compared to 38% for men. They clearly are interested in raising the number of women on campus. In the class of '22, 41.7% were women.
