I know my chances aren't great, but Yale is my absolute dream school.
I will keep working hard to get there. :)

If I had to guess, probably not for Yale. Your SAT’s are very low and my guess is that your subject tests will not be super high either (you might just be a bad test taker, I know I am). I don’t know your unweighted GPA, but my guess is that it is around a 3.7, which is also low for Yale. Your EC’s are good, but not so strong to compensate for grades and scores that are below the averages.

You have to remember that ivies (and most large schools) don’t have time to be holistic in their admissions. So at some liberal art schools demonstrated interest could compensate for the low stats, but at such a large school it is unlikely. What other schools are you looking at?

If you can raise your SAT to at least a 2200, preferably a 2300, then you’d stand a chance. All AP’s senior year is good, and might help compensate for a low GPA. Also, at a very competitive high school, such as Exeter or Brearley, your GPA is not so low after all. Try to get very high grades first semester to make up for some lower ones ou might have gotten in the past.
Applying to Yale as an Asian is always difficult; it’s easy to come off as a perfect-SAT-4.00-GPA-college-obsessed-robot, and there are so many students like that. What you need to do is find a unique “spike” or “hook.” It should be something you excel in and want to study. Then you should have a lot of EC’s that relate to this topic; for example, if you want to study medicine, you should have good grades in sciences, take AP biology and chemistry, maybe work at a lab, do summer medical programs, volunteer at a hospital, etc. Being passionate about your major-and having good scores-is your best chance of getting into Yale. Good luck!
Could you chance me for Princeton? Thanks so much!

PrincetonPreppy gives good advice. Make yourself stand out on your application, and you’ll always have a chance.

That said, I will caution you that your SAT score puts you at a severe disadvantage and that your extracurriculars don’t give a very clear idea of your interests and don’t stand out much. You should know that your chances are not very high. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply - if Yale is your dream school, certainly submit an app - but make sure you do apply to a good range of matches and safeties as well.
