Hello! This is my first post ever on CC. Forgive me.
I'd like to know my chances of getting accepted into GC. I plan on applying Early Decision.
I have received a range of high GPA scores (F: 3.75, S: 4.0, J: 4.0) at a college-prep high school in MD.
As an underclassman, I took all college-prep courses which are equivalent to a public school's Honors courses - at least in this area. As a Junior, I have taken all Honors courses. Next year, I have signed up to take 3 APs: AP bio, psych and german 4; and 3 Honors: Hon. english, calc(or trig) and philosophy.
All four years I will have participated in our school's Drama Dept., this year having been VP and next year P; Excluding Freshman year I will have been a Member, then Secretary, then VP/P of our school's Diversity Awareness club (though I am white); This year i became a member of the German Club and hope to be Secretary next year.
I am a member of NAHS and NGS, the first since Freshman year and the latter since Soph year.
I am taking the SAT, SATST, and ACT in the late spring. My PSAT scores for this year were 670. I plan on taking them again in the Fall if I hear that they aren't sufficient.
I have volunteered 60 hours at various places, soup kitchens and daycares, and plan on volunteering an additional 40 at the hospital over the summer.
I plan on getting a job at a restaurant at the end of the summer.
I am a quite good writer (though it may not be apparent in this lax post) so my essays will be another strong point.

Please let me know what I should do. I feel like my chances of getting in are good. I may not be 100% golden but I feel that with a good essay as well as Early Decision, I should be fine. But that's my opinion - I'd like yours.
Thanks!

LOL I am so sorry - every time I tell someone my score I mess it up. I don’t know why I get confused. I got 167 overall. (Which would be 1670 on SAT…probably source of my confusion)

You should probably plan a scheduled visit and do the whole talk and tour. You may want to consider an overnight stay to make sure this is the school for you. I have seen mixed results concerning the importance of the interview with Admissions. One child did the interview and it was a plus. Another child absolutely killed the interview and was later informed that the interview holds no weight, soo… I would say make sure Admissions knows you have visited campus and they put you on their radar, the interview I would say you could skip. Your numbers look good enough, your activities look good too. Best of luck.

Assuming you get a slightly higher test score you will have a good chance. Make sure your essays are really good (LACs value essays more then most schools).

Thanks so much. I have visited and I plan on scheduling an interview soon. I just registered for the SAT and got the study guide as well so I will let you all know what I get!!

I think you sound like a wonderful applicant for Gettysburg College. Your GPA is inline for the school. Your activities are wonderful as well. You are on the right track by studying for the SAT/ACT as you will need to improve the scores (based on your PSAT) but you are not too far off. Also, Gettysburg is test optional so you should look into what they require under that option (I think if you want to be considered for merit scholarships you have to submit test scores). I would highly recommend visiting the campus and having an interview so that you show as much interest in the school possible.
