Chances of landing a summer REU spot this summer, and a spot in a great master's program later?

I’m a sophomore right now, and applying to REU programs this summer. I’m interested in ones centered around Bioinformatics and Biostatistics. I plan on going to graduate school afterwards for AI or Statistics. I’ve heard both of these are very difficult to get into. What kinds of programs do you think I’d have a shot in concerning REUs and Grad Schools?

Facts about me:
I’m a Black/hispanic male, first gen college student at Virginia Tech.
Double majoring in Statistics and Computational Modeling and Data Analytics.
Minoring in Math and Computer Science.
GPA of 3.63, and will have a semester of research experience after this upcoming semester.
However, I have only had 1 4000 level course and three 3000 level courses, so I’m not sure if that’ll be held against me or not.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

All you can do is apply. As a URM first gen with a strong GPA, you might have better shot than most sophomores.

Do you have a mentor/professor at your college who can guide you to partnership colleges that frequently accept REU students from your college for the particular subject you’re interested in? That would be the ideal first step.
