Chances of MIT or CalTech

Hi, I am currently a Junior and am wondering what my chances are of being accepted to MIT or Caltech. Listed below are my stats and "projected" stats.

Class Rank: 25/367

Grades: A few B's here and there (2 a year, high B's though like 88)
Enrolled in every honor course I can possibly take. (B's were in PAP classes)

AP Tests/Classes

Sophomore:
AP Human Geography (4)
AP World History (5)

Junior:
AP Statistics
AP US History
AP Computer Science A
AP English

Senior:
AP Government
AP Macroeconomics
AP Biology
AP Chemistry
AP European History
AP English
AP Calculus BC

Projected SAT:
~2100-2300
Hopefully national merit finalist this year.

Actively participating in Decathlon, hoping to win state this year.
Hoping to win 1st in state Computer Science UIL, and place in UIL Spelling and Vocabulary
3rd in region last year for Octathlon

NHS
Started Chess Club
President of Computer Science Club

Probably forgetting something in there..........

Please give me your thoughts below, any suggestions on what I should do to get accepted?

It depends on how competitive your high school is. If your high school is ultra-competitive (which the AcaDec team would seem to indicate it is), you’ll definitely have a chance. The 1st in state in the UIL is HUGE if you can do that, and really without a stellar performance at some sort of Science of CompSci extracurricular, your chances are not going to be great. 800’s or high 700’s in SAT II science/math tests are a must have, to show that your school’s curriculum is rigorous in light of the your limited math/science APs.

If you can win a state competition in computer science, you can probably get in. Otherwise, start racking up some good test scores very quickly.

Thanks for the advice christiansoldier, guess I better start studying for Computer Science right about…now…lol

Any other advice/suggestions?

BTW: My high school is in Texas, 4A, one of best 4A high schools in state.

anyone have any suggestion, please I need help

As of right now, you have nothing special to offer Caltech and MIT. Maybe this will change within a year and 4 months, but I kind of doubt it.

I am a junior, have not taken SAT, or Subject Tests yet will do this year.

Every Academic Competition I can possibly win now that I am older, so of course I have nothing as of now.

When you are a freshman or a sophomore you have to face juniors and seniors in these competitions as well.

You’re absolutely right, most people are just uncompetitive against much more experienced juniors and seniors in academic competitions. Almost everyone. But you have to remember that MIT and CalTech get first pick when it comes to math/science students. All of those precocious underclassmen who show up all of the seniors who have been doing it since freshman year, all of those prodigies that do their own research, all of those testing monsters that just never miss a question are your competition. If you they have their pick of the best math/science/computer students in the world (and India, China, South Korea, and Taiwan always produce some mathematical beasts), you’ll have a hard time keeping up. That’s not to say you can’t do it, but you’ll have to step it up.

Hmm…thx once again Christiansoldier…bump

any other ideas for EC’s I can do?

what ethnicity are you?

Your stats look weak overall. I don’t see anything spectacular. Just make sure to do your safeties well, before jumping into reaches is al lI can say

White Male

bump, how does ethnicity effect outcome at MIT? Is everyone there asian or something?

Since this is you junior year, Do nOT save everything for your senior year,
even if you think you can wing the SAT with 2400, ect.
that was my mistake. i was so stupid, anyways raise your sat scores
and try to get 5’s in the aps that you take, especially in math and CS for MIT and caltech…maybe at least five of them. This is your junior year, your last chance to take classes and score 5’s on these aps to impress the colleges. However, ap’s aren’t everything–you admission essays matters A LOT…so start now…
also, definitely look into internships.
hey chance me :
