Chances of NC State, VT, or Clemson?

Hello! I’m a rising senior in a big high school in North Carolina and I was wondering what my chances are for VT, Clemson, and NC State. Here are my stats:
Unweighted GPA: 3.33 (low I know) W GPA: 3.8

EC/Honors: DECA, Work experience at 3 different restaurants, Secretary Officer of ICC, ICC representative of Career Club, NHS, Knights In Action community service program, Intern at Dentist office, Current employee at Marble Slab Ice Cream shop
(I listed everything just to see what would help) I also plan on doing more internships this summer, probably with a financial manager from Wells Fargo

SAT Score: 1270 as of right now but I’m still waiting on my June score and I’m taking it in August. (Hopefully I can get around a 1350 by August)

My class rank as of late was a 341/790ish (my class is huge) but I’m not sure what it is as of late.

AP Courses: AP Psychology, AP Human Geography, AP English Language, and planning to take AP Macroeconomics and AP Statistics senior year. (I signed up for AP Macro junior year but did not receive it because of how big my class is)

I was also wondering if my stats are too low for NC State or Clemson, should I just do ED to Virginia Tech? Would that be a good option? I was planning on applying for finance or business. Also this is my schedule for senior year:

AP Statistics
AP Macroeconomics
Honors English IV
Honors American History II
Honors Forensic Sciences
Honors Hospitality and Tourism
Early Release- Fall
Early Release- Spring

Thanks everyone, let me know if you need any more information.

I can only rlly comment on Clemson admissions but I’d say they are pretty solid. Clemson places a HUGE emphasis on choice of major and business is a pretty popular major so it will be more competitive. That being said, I wouldn’t worry abt the GPA at all, they will look at ur weighted GPA and a 3.8 is still pretty good. As long as you do decently well in math related classes (At most 1 C) then you should be good applying as a business major. That being said, when you apply to Clemson I would put your choice major #2 (They make you put 2 different majors your intersted in during the application) as a less competitive major such as English, Education, or History, and then transfer into the school of business your second year. Hope that helps!

According to like everyone else, I’m not competitive for Clemson.

I would argue that you are if you put your second choice major as a less competitive major, such as English, Education, or History. Especially if you can get your sat/act up

Probably not man  its getting really competitive. If your GPA isn’t at least a 3.5 unweighted you’re not really competitive.

I can only tell you about my kid and let you compare. Also big school in NC, top 25% of class with a 3.4 uw and 4.4 w. 1350, tons of EC and community service. Waitlisted at Clemson. Accepted at NCSU and VT. Good luck.

What did he apply for at NCSU and VT? What about Clemson?

My comments are on Clemson.

The two areas that concern me are your class rank (you currently rank around the 55th percentile) and your SAT score. Having visited during the Spring Blitz, had a chance to meet with an admissions officer. Based on what he said, I would classify Clemson as a numbers school. This means they will look heavily at your SAT or Act, your GPA, your class rank, the major you are declaring ,the rigor of the classes you have taken, and what classes you plan to take in your senior year. EC’s and community service are not heavily weighed. I think your best bet is to get your SAT scores into at least the mid to upper 1300’s, visit the school and talk to admissions. I’m hoping your grades are consistently going up as that demonstrates your maturity level.

If you check out their scholarship page, a 1360 SAT or a 29 Act coupled with being ranked in the top 10% of your class got you a $7,500 renewable scholarship.

Here is the excerpt from Clemson’s website
For 2018-19 year, domestic out-of-state students with at least a 1360 (EBRW+M) on the SAT or a 29 on the ACT composite and who are ranked*** in the top 10%* of their high school class will receive a renewable merit scholarship of at least $7,500. Students with higher test scores will be considered for these merit scholarships up to $15,000 annually.

Good luck!

341/790 is 43%. But I completely understand what you’re saying and you’re right. I don’t think I’m competitive for Clemson. That is unless I boost my SAT score and express my interest like crazy.
