Chances of receiving a full-tuition scholarship?

Just got my acceptance letter to Dietrich on the 18th (applied through pitt prestige system), however it noted that I would receive scholarship information separately. How long can I expect to wait before I hear back from them about it? Am I correct in assuming that I should send in my supplemental information (ECs, more recs, et cetera) separately.

Also, do I have any shot at a full ride? Or at least a substantial chunk of FA?

Stats are

35 ACT
3.76/4.39 GPA (as of 1st semester senior year, should go up soon)
780 SAT-II lit, 750 SAT-II World Hist.
OOS applicant (MD)

Thanks

I would send everything in if you expect any merit awards. Without the extra documentation, I do not think you can expect full tuition, and even with them, I would be surprised about full tuition, without an interview. You should be able to check on the requirements for full tuition scholarships on their website.

Definitely will do, just sent out a preliminary email asking who I should contact to submit the remainder of my app. Honestly not expecting too much though, it’d just be nice if I could have at least one place where my parents wouldn’t have to worry about tuition.

The full tuition scholarship is awarded without an interview. It is the Chancellor’s scholarship (full ride) that requires an additional application plus interview if you make it through.

If you need a full tuition scholarship, check the Univ. of Alabama – your ACT score would guarantee a full tuition scholarship. They do have a deadline but I don’t recall when it is.

I’d prefer not to go the Alabama route; money isn’t the primary concern at the moment, rather, full tuition would bring Pitt in line with the price of my state school.

In any case, do I at least have a shot at the full tuition package?

Of course you have a shot but Pitt’s awarding of Full tuition scholarships is a hit or miss proposition. If you have read some of the previous threads on scholarships, you will realize students with stats similar to yours have received the scholarships and others haven’t. Good luck!

Stats from DS last year who got a full tuition and was invited to Chancellor Scholarship interview (they invited 50 students, only full tuition scholarship students with 34/1500 ACT/SAT or above were invited)
OoS, ACT 34, GPA 3.9/4.7, IB student, National Merit finalist, some ECs

Hope this help

It does, thanks

honestly, at this point I’m just trying to figure out whether or not I can get costs down to the point where I can fully cover them myself with a part-time job.

We received the offering letter about this time, and at the same time the invitation to compete for Chancellor’s Scholarship. Don’t miss the dead line!
If you get the Chancellor, you don’t need to work. Pitt is very generous in tuition scholarship, last year they awarded more than 800 full-tuition scholarship.
Good luck!

Evidently the FA committee didn’t get the chance to look over the supplemental material I sent them, given that the letter containing my FA package was postmarked the exact same day I emailed them my r

It can’t hurt to try. All they can say is no.

I got full tuition, here are my stats if you’re interested
GPA: 3.5uw 3.82w
SAT: 1550(math&reading) 2240 overall
NMSF at time of application, now a NMF
1 solid essay and 1 good counselor rec
EC’s: really meh, only a service club

A question … did you students who are receiving scholarships actively apply for them or were they simply awarded based on your credentials? My child is enrolled for Fall 2013 and I’ve filled out FAFSA, but we have taken no other proactive steps directly with the University in search of scholarships or grants.

I think largely based on test scores and grades. We just applied to attend. They notified son he had full tuition.

I was just awarded it, no extra steps necessary

Just wanted to give a quick update to this thread. I asked them to reconsider my scholarship award and they ended up bumping me up to full tuition. It’s now cheaper to attend pitt than it is to go to my state flagship. Guess my message is “don’t be afraid to ask.”

Congratulations! I hope you end up at Pitt!

Congratulations @BertrandMisc! Hope you choose Pitt…you won’t regret it!

hey guys! I have a question… I got into Pitt-Pitt with a 1970 SAT/3.7 UW. However, I still haven’t received my FA package. I’m OOS so the more I can get, the better for my parents and myself! My EFC is 0. I was wondering, I took the March 9th SAT and I just got my score back. I got CR 690, M 740, W 800 (total of 2230). How can I send it so it arrives asap to Pitt? Is it too late for my FA to change maybe to a full tuition? Do I contact the financial aid office and send them my SAT and art supplement, or the admissions office? thanks!

If I remember correctly, collegeboard allows for an expedited delivery at an additional cost. Afterwards, I would send Pitt an email asking for a reconsideration with respect to your new scores. However, I believe I only got my aid package increased because of a competing scholarship offer, so if you have any of those, now is the time to bring it up.

Good luck.
