What is the breakdown in your SAT scores? They appear to be on the low side. How strong are your academics? What is the highest math and science you have taken?

I will go out on a limb and say you would be a stretch for a Senator nomination - the competition is very stiff.

It is all going to depend on the competition in your congressional district. Some districts in PA are very competitive and receive many high quality applications, while others are not as competitive.

How many times have you taken the SATs? Have you taken the ACTs? If the answer if once and no then I strongly reccomend you sign up for the next tests in your area ASAP. Not to say you don't have a shot at it where you stand, but why not improve your chances as there is no down side to retaking or taking SATs and ACTs.

Also, find out all you can about your Congressman, as JAMO said, getting a nood from your Senator is going to be tough. Does your congressman rank his/her nominees? What have past years looked like in terms of the number of nominations?

good luck and get going on those tests

Would suggest you retake sats again-

as for MOCs- it all depends on who the competetion is.
You have no control over that, so just do what you can to get YOUR package as competetive as possible. Your best chance is with your local MOC as opposed to the senator, but you need to apply to all available sources.

I see a whole ton of ECA's-
but unless I am missing something, I am seeing a lot of volunteer stuff and not much leadership-so based on what you have posted, it is not clear if you have had any leadership outside of mentoring and 9th grade student council. Would suggest cutting back on the ECA's- concentrate on a few- and get some leadership responsiblity in those. Far better to have a few ECAs that you are very involved in, and take leadership in, then a whole host of things that get a smidge of your attention. If you are actually leading your youth group, then speak that up- diddo to how much "organizing" you are doing as church deacon.... what have you organized, exactly, and what were the outcomes?

For crew- first place finishes will mean little-remember, you are one of many in a shell- but do post a great erg score from a sanctioned venue (think Crash-B's or Main-line Slide) and you may get some attention. To that end, make sure you post that result on "irow.com" as that is one site coaches frequently scout.

Don't count on the "gradfather USNA graduate".... too far removed, so it will not garner you any "points."

So your mission, should you decide to accept:
1. SATs: Verbal >600 and Math >650... I hate to use the word "minimum", but will use it anyway.... your goal should be to get those scores up as high as you can.... keep in mind USNA only looks at math and verbal, with math given a bit more "weight" in the "whole person" score.
2. ECA's: focus on one or 2 and get some leadership under your belt. Ditto for sports.
3. Erg time from sanctioned (and verifiable) source - send to coach. (Note: an erg time submitted by your current coach does not count)- it needs to be from a ROW-USA sanctioned event and independently timed.

BTW- do you row lightweight? If so, and if you are a "natural" lightweight, make sure the coaches know that as well- together with a good erg score, it can raise an eyebrow.

If you've taken SATs 2X or more, take the ACT. If you've taken the SAT fewer Xs, take the ACT...and the SAT if you wish. My bet is you'll do well on the ACT.

Where in PA? Who's your MOC?

You've a fine scholastic EC record which'll stand you well. That said, you'll benefit from keeping your pedal to the metal. PA's a pretty competitive commonwealth. Good luck, go get 'em.
