Chances of recieving a scholarship???

I’m an upcoming high school senior with a 3.8 unweighted GPA and a 28 composite score on the June ACT. I haven’t taken very many AP courses… Just AP English junior year and I’m signed up for it again in the fall. Do I have any chance at getting a decent scholarship to college like maybe half-full tuition? I’m looking into Mercer, UGA, and University of Auburn and I reside in Alabama. Thanks!

Why would you take AP English again? Look here for some college options: http://automaticfulltuition.yolasite.com/

She may mean the other AP English class…there are two different ones.

An ACT 28 won’t get you anything as an OOS student for UGA. Look on Mercer’s website for their scholarship info.

You’re instate for Auburn, so …you’d get $4k per year …which is less than half tuition. tuition now is about $10k per year and increasing every year. So, by the time you’d be a junior or senior, that $4k would cover about 1/3 tuition.

Look at Miss State.

How much will your parents pay each year? Ask them, please don’t guess.

Are you going to retest? Take both the ACT and the SAT!!

What is your major and career goal?

Look at University of Montevallo. They have generous merit.

Yes I am taking the other AP English class for senior year. I took AP Language last year so I’ll be taking AP Literature this year. I plan on taking the September ACT and am aiming for a 30 or 31. I think that would be my last one as I want to apply EA. If I were to take the ACT a few more times and apply for regular admission would I still be eligible for scholarship opportunities? Also I took the May SAT and got a 1160 out of 1600. After doing some research I found that my SAT score converts to a 25 on the ACT. I took the June SAT too so I’ll have to wait and see my scores for that one. I want to major in biology or biomedical sciences. After that I plan on going to Physician Assistant school. My parents have money saved for me to go to college around $30,000 and they are willing to pay for whatever I can not get with scholarship, but I was hoping to go to college on scholarship so they wouldn’t have to worry about It. Also I don’t qualify for financial aid.

You might also consider the University of South Alabama; in its College of Allied Health Professions it has a Department of Physician Assistant Studies. Here is a link to the USA scholarship information page: http://www.southalabama.edu/departments/financialaffairs/scholarships/freshmanstudents.html. You appear to qualify for a Presidential Scholarship already; improving your ACT score obviously would help.

Definitely consider USA as mentioned above. Very good for pre-professionals in health careers.

YES…so retest!

Getting into PA schools is highly competitive and often requires that you have 2000-5000 HANDS ON patient clinical experience…so start working on that as soon as you leave high school. You’ll be competing with all the applicants who are former paramedics or military medics who have a gazillion hands-on hours…so you’ll need to impress.

Yes I am getting my CNA license this fall and will start racking up hours. Thanks for everyone’s help this has been very helpful!
