Chances of tagging into Davis with a D?

Hello! So I’m a psych-bio major and this is basically my last year at a CC. I still have to get through this semester, summer, and fall before I apply to the UC’s, but this semester I’ve struggled with a chemistry class to the point where I’m very conflicted as to whether I should stay in the class (and possibly fail). I have a C but it’s borderline a D and if I do everything perfectly I might be able to get a secure C (although it’s unlikely considering how hard the course is getting). I’ve been inputting my grades into the transfer admission site just to see what my gpa would look like and it ends up at a 3.25 as of spring 2018. If I get A’s in the four classes I planned to take in the summer and fall, then my gpa would rise to a 3.44. Is it likely that tagging to Davis will work still considering that I got a D? Also if I end up with a D, would I be able to use academic renewal even though it would get approved in spring 19, which would be after I apply?

Re TAG, you only can’t get Ds after you apply. Prior to that it’s based on GPA. AR probably will not have enough time spacing. It’s usually a 1-2 year time frame in between terms before it can be applied. You need to check your CCC rules. I would just retake for a letter grade. P/NP won’t count and retains the previous letter grade. You can retake if you get a C- or lower. Or you can ignore it as long as it’s not a major course req. That would disqualify you. Assuming it’s a random course, as long as your GPA remains above the TAG minimum the D won’t affect TAG.it may affect other campuses, though.

since you want Davis, note that one of their conditions for TAG is fulltime enrollment at a CC thru spring semester although they say they will waive that if you’ve finished all the requirements. Rather than assuming it is all ok I recommend discussing your plans with Davis ahead of time.
