Hello, I am currently a freshman at Bowdoin College. Though I like it here, I have come to the decision that I want to transfer. I would like to know what my chances of admission at Claremont McKenna College and Pomona College given that I get good grades (about 3.8 to 4.0)?

My high school GPA is 3.7 UW and 4.4 W.
My SAT score is 2140 and my ACT score is a 33.
Extracurriculars: Church, community orchestra, tutoring, cello lessons, fluent in Korean.

This process is obviously new to me so if there is any more information that I need to provide, just notify me. thank you.

Pomona only takes about 10 transfers a year and usually they are from Ivy-league schools.

You'd be more likely to get in at CMC. Someone here got in to Econ with a 3.64 last year, but that may have been because they were expanding and took 60 transfers. I heard this year they will take about 30. You'd have a pretty good shot with good grades and recs.

you also may want to give it a semester. it's not unusual to react to a new place with misgivings, particularly if it's far from where you went to high school. but that's part of the growing process. i say this only because pomona and cmc are very similar schools to bowdoin but for their location. it being so early in the year suggests that the growing pains associated with a new, independent environment might be a little overwhelming right now. i say settle in for the semester, and, if after it, you still have a mind to change, do it then.

it's very difficult to transfer into an LAC. i'd suggest, if you're looking into california, to look at berkeley and maybe even stanford, which, although exceptionally difficult to get into as a first year, may be easier than pomona as a transfer.

Stanford is SIGNIFICANTLY harder than pomona to transfer into. Pomona had just over a 10% acceptance rate for transfers while standford had a 1.64% acceptance rate, 23 out of 1400. They have a 10% freshman acceptance rate, so which is also much easier than transferring there. Berkeley seems much more reasonable.

I got rejected this year for fall 08, i met up with the director of admissions, and he mentioned at a minimum one should aim for a 3.6 to be competitive for Claremont McKenna. Your best shot is CMC. They also told me that SAT scores don't play a factor.

To stand a chance at Pomona I imagine the closer you are to a 4.0 from a peer school or a "harvard" the better you are. They do however take into consideration SAT scores.
