Chances of transfer to these schools?

-High School GPA: 3.1 uw (Yea...I know its not very good.)

-SAT: 1940 total 700 math, 680 reading, 560 writing (I can't write well, its my worst subject)

-ACT: 28

-Total 3 AP classes: AP Psychology, AP Statistics, AP Computer Science (4,5,5 respective)

-Every class I took in High School was honors otherwise

College GPA 3.8 (4-year university)

-First Semester:
-Intro Comp Sci (Lab)
-Intro Political Phil
-Calculus I
-Writing in Academic Context (Intro Eng basically)
-Intro to Economic Theory (Drop in b/c I was interested)

-Second Semester
-Comp Sci II (Lab)
-Logic and Algorithms
-Calculus II
-Writing in Academic....II
-Intro to Chemistry (Lab)
-Intro to Theater (hated this class, stupid Gen Ed)

EC: Almost None! This might be the worst area on my app. I kind of just have to pull things out of my *** here.
-I have about 400 volunteer hours I guess

Major: Computer Science

Recommendations: Good I suppose

Essays: Eh, like I said before, I am not a good writer. However, for a transfer application, the prompts are usually just "Why us?", so I think I will be ok.

More info:
-Hispanic
-In-state
-Family income below 30,000
-Will be applying for Financial Aid at both schools
-Applying as a Sophomore

Applying to:
UNC-Chapel Hill (Single Legacy)
NC State (Double Legacy)

I would be ok with either, however I would really like to go to Chapel for various reasons I won't go into.

Thanks in advance!

Assume you’ll be applying for admission for fall 2014? If so you’ll be fine and get in…just look at the transfer threads from years past to get a sense of your odds at various schools

Yea fall 2014. Sorry i forgot to add that

You should be fine. Just make sure to keep your GPA high for your second year of college. Even though you say you do not have too many ECs, 400 volunteer hours is pretty impressive. You could also always join a club or two this upcoming school year if you are worried about it. Good luck!

Thanks shawshank. I understand that college transcripts are more important than High school ones as time goes on, however I am taking off next year so I think my high school transcript will still have weight (sophmore transfer). That is unfortunate because my grades were so poor back in HS. Kinda makes me wish I didn’t skip my homework now.

Try Vandy. Their admissions committee focuses a lot on college merit.

Vandy may be an option, but I need that Financial Aid. I don’t know how well an OOS school could compensate me. :/

Their financial aid office supplies around 60% of the student body. I don’t know too much about transfer students and financial aid options. I don’t think it would be too different.
