Chances of Transfer to UT Austin Engineering School

Hello,
I was just wondering what my chances would be if I wanted to transfer into UT Austin's Cockrell Engineering School, in particular, Petroleum Engineering.
Right now I am currently going to Collin College (Community College) and I am maintaining a GPA of 4.0.

Background: I graduated from High School on 2011, and finished in the top quarters. I joined the Army Reserves, and now I'm back to go back to school. I haven't touched math since 2011, therefore I'm in College Algebra right now.

I'm planning to submit my transfer by Spring of 2015, after taking Calc I and Calc II here at my Community College. Right now I'm in College Algebra, but i'm studying Trig and Pre-Calc on my own to get placed in Calc I by next semester by taking the accuplacer test.

The classes I've taken so far are:
ENGL 1301, GOVT 2301, HIST 1301, HUMA 1301, ECON 2301, GEOL 1403, GOVT 2306, MATH 1314 With a 4.0 GPA
Future classes I'm planning to take:
Calc I, Calc II, General Chem I, II,

How good are my chances if i maintain my 4.0 GPA, and what other recommendations are there to secure my chances of getting admitted?

Bumping~~~~~~

Hi Yoonislimbo.

Thank you for your service in the military!

It’s good news that you are applying to UT’s Petroleum engineering program.

I am guessing you are a sophomore at Collin College (started Fall 2012).

The chances of you transferring with a 4.0 GPA puts you at a great advantage.

But you should also focus on making the other components of your application look good (ex. Essays, Resume)

Also, engineering majors can only transfer for the fall semester.

The minimum to transfer to UT Austin is 30 transferrable credit hours.

Be sure to check on UT’s transfer equivalency website to see which classes transfer over.

Transferring engineering majors need to meet the calculus readiness requirement. [Cockrell School of Engineering | Be a Longhorn](http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/transfer/admission/majors/engineering)

I advise you to take Calculus I and II at Collin College.

If your schedule permits, I recommend to take also Physics I and Physics II at Collin College.

Here is the information to transferring to UT Austin. [Transfer Admission | Be a Longhorn](http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/transfer/admission)

I had a friend who transferred from another 4-year university in Texas (Texas Tech) to UT Austin and got accepted into their Mechanical Engineering program.

He applied with a 4.0 GPA and did all of the requirements.

So if you keep it up, you too can make it in.

As of this year, UT Austin’s Petroleum Engineering program is ranked #1.
