Hello everyone. This is my first post, but I have used CC for about a year now. It has been very helpful in answering all my questions so far, but I have an issue with one thing.

I am applying for sophomore transfer to NYU, UofR, and Emory. My current university is UCR.

HS Stats:
GPA: 3.40 Unweighted/ 3.6 Weighted
SAT I (Highest Combined): 610 Math, 540 Writing, 520 Reading
SAT II: Math II: 610, U.S. History: 570

EC's:
Board Member of San Gabriel Valley Chinese Cultural Association
Work Experience as Bookkeeper for 3 years at an Autobody Repair Shop
Track & Field HS 4 years - Varsity Letterman
Work Experience as a tutor for high school students in Alg 2, Pre-Calc, & Economics

College Stats:
GPA: 1st Quarter (3.47), 2nd Quarter (4.0), Overall Unweighted (3.64)
Made the dean's honor list 2nd quarter.
EC's: Same as HS except I did not do track in college.

Here's my problem. I had a major issue in one class during fall quarter. I got a C+ in a Remedial English course. UCR factors that remedial class into my GPA, lowering it by a lot. The question is whether or not these out-of-state schools will consider it in my GPA. I applied to USC this year as well and since it doesn't transfer to their school, they don't factor it in, which raises my GPA by a lot.

Also, winter quarter I moved on to the next level College English course, which is a higher and more rigorous course, and I received an A+ in that course. Does that matter at all? Without the C+, my GPA fall quarter would be a 3.81 and I would've made the Dean's List fall quarter. Overall, it roughly averages out my GPA to 3.9.

I did try my best in that remedial class and everyone at UCR knows that most students that end up being placed in English 4 receive a C+ or B-. I know that I can't explain it to the admissions office without sounding like I am whining, so what should I do?
