Chances of transfering into Cornell?

I attend a community college in Los Angeles.

I have a 3.93 GPA and would transfer as a Philosophy major.

Do I stand a chance at Cornell?

need A LOT more info than that: hs stats, ECs, letters of rec, which college (i’m assuming CAS), do you have a hook…?

I was an average student in highschool. 3.2 GPA and 1400 SAT.

But I really turned myself around in college.

I’m also Hispanic, have a speech impediment, and my parents adjusted gross is about 33k…

Does that help?

improving yourself around grade-wise will not be enough to get you in.

there are lots of other threads on this section as well as the cornell section that go into a lot of detail on the details of trans. to cornell or any other top school.

but the main thing is: if you were not a competitive hs applicant you generally need at least two of the following:

1.) considerably time away from school for a compelling reason
2.) complete transformation: leadership ECs, amazing grades, amazing letters of recs (from profs who really know you), won scholarships+awards at your cc or state school
3.) hook: ofent goes with #1 (if applicable, not always ) - an amazing/compelling personal story
4.) amazing essays that showcase who are you, what your passions are, where they came from, and why cornell is the only avenue for you to explore those pursuits.

ALSO: you have not mentioned which college you are applying to cornell has 7 colleges with INDIVIDUAL admissions policies. they look at your application based on your merits/store AND with the fit of the college. you may think you are best suited for CAS, but if come across like you would be better in CALS, you application will be rejected. (they don’t forward the application onto the school that’s a better fit for you, they expect you to research and figure out which major from which school is perfect).

getting a 3.9 at a community college is awesome, but cornell looks for people who know have a focused passion and will contribute to the community.

i think hyperlite is looking way to much into this. im going to go the basic route.

you have a 3.93 so your def there grade wise.
you have a 1400 SAT which is better than alot of the people who get into cornell as transfers.

you need to show some leadership/involvement

write a good essay

college of arts and sciences is what you would be applying to bc your a philosophy major
that is the hardest college to get in. its like 9% acceptance.
