So, I’ve been browsing through threads in here to get some clues on what I should do, but I still don’t know.

I’m in a really bad situation and I need some advice, I’m starting my third year in college, as an engineering major.

I started off great with a 3.8 GPA first term, then a 3.2 second term, then a 2.6 third term, and a 2.0 now, I literally just blew it, and I realized I had to transfer, but it seems a little late. Now, not only is my GPA in the pits, but I’m losing my scholarships.

I just applied to a couple CUNY schools (new york colleges) as transfer for the Spring 2008 Term. But with a 2.0 GPA in college, (B in HS & 1440 sat if that matters), I’m not sure whether or not I’ll be accepted. I can’t stay at my current school anymore as I lost my scholarship (Had full scholarship, lost it all, and private school tuition). So I’m pretty much stuck. So my questions are:

What will the transfer schools be looking for since I’m in my third year? Will they still be looking at my HS grades? My SAT score? or will it be based solely in my college GPA

I need to transfer out. If I don’t get into the schools I applied for and I just go to a community college, will I be able to apply for a private/city/state school again and have them look at my CCC’s grades? Or will they just consider my first uni’s grades? If anybody knows how transferring twice works, please answer this question for me. Will a high gpa at my second college (CC) help me transfer into a better school (third school) ?

God, I’m in such a bad situation. TIA.

First of all, where do you go to school now? Secondly, why did you GPA tank? I know engineering is one of the more challenging majors in terms of workload, but did you just not have the motivation? If this is the case, perhaps you shouldn't continue to pursue that road, since your apparent lack of passion for the subject matter is apparent.

Why do you "need" to transfer out? Financial reasons?

I would imagine that less competitive schools would take you, as would any CC. Think about changing your major, and just regrouping... taking some courses in a new direction with new motivation. Ace them and add to your resume outside of school, and figure out what you really want to do and where you want to do it, and you'll be fine. Schools will understand that engineering is difficult, and it just wasn't your passion(?). It's never as bad - or as good - as it seems. You just need some perspective. The worst thing you can do at this point is freak out. Keep your head on your shoulders.

Well, it wasn't really the engineering courses that I bombed. I actually did well in them. I just got distracted during my sophomore year by other stuff and messed up a couple of courses, so it was that.

But what I'm going to do is transfer out of my private uni to a CC right now. I plan to get a good GPA at the CC and then transfer back to some other uni. Would this work out? My main question is how long I should stay there until I transfer again. 1 Term? 2 Term?

Any feedback, TIA.

I think it depends on how bad the "damage" is and how many applications you are willing to submit. If it were me, I would try after 1 semester, but that may not go well. If it works- great. If not- you go for another semester and try again.

FYI, I also think that this ^ will depend on what school you go to now, and what schools you apply to. If you are not applying to ultra-competitive places, than you might be able to transfer in ASAP, maybe even without any CC classes, etc. It really depends on what your end goal is.
